What it really means is that the irish government increased the price of a packet of cigs by 50 cents in their budget last week taking the price up to 10.65 for a packet of 20 cigs. The irish smokers said" sod this ,I will give them up" But the government had planned to take in a half a billion extra on tax with the increase.so now they have a really big problem to get the country smoking again and get their cigarette tax.but they can not tell the irish people to go back smoking, and they can not reduce the price back down because the excuse they used for the increse was to stop people smoking. So after consulting with big brothers in Europe they decide to tell everyone that rashers, sausages, ham, stake, and processed food when eaten is more dangerous than smoking to get all back to normal.Ireland was to be a test case in Europe to see if governments could tax tobacco addics to the limit and see if they could get a massive increase in tax without dropping the consumption of tobacco users. now a scare on processed meat has started.

And that's not as daft a summary as some would think, brassneck.
These lying, using, governments have to get their pound of flesh from somewhere and they create a myriad of nonsense to keep people paying taxes on things 'they shouldn't do, for their health' - whilst purporting to want people to get healthy.
Smoke and mirrors - all of it.

the governments are at it all the time Tommy Toes, every so often you see items on the main news relating to certain foods being good for you.for example "and we will be right back after the break to tell you why Bananas are good for your heart".Next day all the world trade markets have a run on the Banana companies price soring up the charts. And if people eat too much red meat an item appears on the news telling us how we all can look younger by eating chicken.

Has the World Health Organisation explained yet how come despite 99.99% of the West's population eating dangerous processed foods on a daily basis (for decades), the numbers of them suffering from cancer as a result are disproportionately low?

What is ridiculous about this whole thing, is the generalisation of Sausages (and Bacon for that matter) as a single entity of processed meats, as though they were all the same, and therefore of equal risk. For a start the meat content in sausages varies enormously

I wonder what the rates of bowl cancer in Spain and Italy are compared to the rest of the world? They eat quite a lot of processed meats, but I bet they are lower than most countries.
A bigger worry is curry and what goes into them, look at the rates of renal failure among the Asian population

I'm going to write to the World Health people to get the full SP on Peppa Pig ice cream lollies.
Not that there are any left for sale in most parts of Britain of course. Huge stocks are safely tucked up under lock and key in SIX massive dungeon freezers belonging to someone I won't name and shame here.

In retaliation to the latest ridiculous scare, I've ordered 40 Pork sausages and 8 Turkey sausages on my online order from Tesco to be delivered tomorrow.
And I'll scoff the bleedin' lot with a smile on my face - and not a whimper from my lower bowel!

yes, agree with you there Tommy. Waitrose do some lovely ones with caramelised red onion but most of ours come from Sainsbury. Just fancy a sausage sandwich now with lashings of brown sauce. Yep, that's it, off to the kitchen.

Anyone remember the scare stories of very well done toast being carcogenic, or salmon being full of mercury, etc, etc?
Just utter balderdash for the media to pick up on to fill their agenda of making people scared to death.
There was a very interesting programme I caught last week on Ch4 (I think) about food - and one of the topics they covered was about MSG.
They did a vox pop in the street and everyone they interviewed said (more or less) "Oh, that stuff's terrible for you, isn't it?
They went to some Asian country where it is sprinkled on almost every plate of food eaten in the cooking process, and they laughed at the supposition that it was 'bad for you'.
They then went to an enormous factory where MSG is made in Asia.
The glutamate part comes from Tapioca - and glutamate is in many everyday foods; tomatoes (the white bit in the middle), potatoes, and so on.
The monosodium is added to produce a crystal (after distilling and so on with the tapioca).
They 'talking heads' (scientists) they interviewed afterwards admitted that MSG is a perfectly safe food enhancer and just has a very bad press.
Guess who created the 'bad press'?

I've never tried these Tesco Butchers Choice Turkey Sausages before, Foinavon, and am looking forward to them immenseley - as I love turkey and also like to have my pork sausages with a load of vinegar (sometimes pickled onion vinegar) from time to time, when I don't fancy them with tommy ketchup.
I reckon turkey sausages with malt vinegar will be right up my street!

That was delicious Tommy. Was feeling a bit peckish and couldn't resist after starting to think about them. I've tried Tesco Butchers choice pork but not the turkey. The pork were very good. Haven't tried them with neat vinegar, though brown sauce contains quite a lot. Will try it next time, presumably you slice them lengthwise to sop up the liquid?

Glad to hear you enjoyed some succulent sausages, Foinavon!
No, I don't slice them lengthways - although I used to when I ate bread and had sausage sandwiches.
I've been off the bread for a year now (in my opinion, something far worse for your health than any bloody sausage!) so cook my sausages in the oven on a 'magic mat' and then eat them whole, with my fingers, bite at a time, whilst dipping the sausages into tommy ketchup or vinegar.
Delicious.

I'm guessing it was either former 'The Golden Shot' presenter Norman Vaughan, or a special Ross Kemp Glove Puppet, with the late Archbishop Makarios as my long-shot saver.

So, they may well have had an enormous influence on people steering clear of Chinese take-aways, which, avoiding the rice, are pretty nutritionally sound - in favour of the ghee cluttered curries from the local 'Indians' or the absolute outrageous muck McDonalds serve up.

Thinking on... but of course most of the Chinese take-away owners in Britain don't have any great (or even any) say in the 'higher echelons'.
Whereas there are many prominent 'Indian', a la Pakistani, food moguls with a great say.
As for McDonalds - enough said.
The proper information about people's foodstuffs being laid bare is very much a closed shop.

I fear that Tommy has been radicalised by the Anti-Sausage Lobby, and given his current eating habit may yet become our very first Sausage Martyr.
Still, on the bright side, it is written in the Holy Book that there will be 72 packets of Richmond Thick Pork Sausages waiting for him in the afterlife. And they are the 16 sausages to a packet format.

its time people stopped eating animals. For years we were told that the tobacco plant would give you cancer if you smoked it. Thinking about it, the vegetarian sausage may well have been the cause of the demise of one of Stoke's largest family owned industries here about 25 years ago: Burgess's.
They were a massively popular bakers and had shops in every one of the six towns here - sometimes, more than one, plus ones in the outlying areas.
When I was a kid and forced to go shopping with my mother on a Saturday, she'd make me wait in the queue in one of the Hanley shops, whilst she went elsewhere, for our order of 36 bridge rolls, 8 sausage rolls, a family trifle plus cream cakes.
The shop was always packed with customers - and there must have been at least 10 women working there as counter assistants.
'Burgess's sausage rolls' were as popular (if not more so) than the locally made 'Wrights pies'. They were a byword in Stoke for the best sausage rolls you could ever eat.
Approximately 1988ish, all of a sudden, Burgess's sausage rolls lost their lustre - and it was found out they'd substituted sausage meat for soya 'meat'.
The company went out of business a few years later - after being one of the most successful enterprises around here.
I'll bet that wouldn't have happened if the kept true to the 'proper sausage'!

Brassneck, I still consider myself a smoker - even though I've been on the vapes for over 4 years now.
Ashtays are always available in my house and I would never, ever object to anyone smoking - anywhere.
When I was 'fully fledged' though the thing which narked me more than anything about people complaining about people smoking was the great, fat, lard-@rses - many working in the hospitals - shuffling around, taking up everyone's space, moaning about smokers, whilst they contributed zilch in extra funds to the NHS to add to the budget for their health problems, whilst smokers added in taxes more than double what it takes to treat them for any health issues.

some people are never satisfied, when the smoking ban came in,it was because people objected about second hand smoke,so now the same people complain about vapes even though they are harmless.A I bet they all eat sausages from time to time,so if any anti smoker is reading this post I object to you eating sausages as you are setting a bad example to children by eating them.

So many people just want to complain about things, all of the time.
I don't understand them one iota. Never have. Never will.
"Live and let live - and stop bloody moaning!" is my mantra.
