If he has some prior convictions - throw away the key.
If it's his first offense I'd go with a more lenient sentence. Say five years in prison, plus £100,000 in compensation to the victim, plus 10,000 hours of community service.

Nah,surely we hould be compassionate and let the doctors study him to understand why he behaved this way and then we should let him back into the community, with an ankle tag designed t stop him re-offending and try to give him a chance to live a normal life again ?
Then we should tell the local community who he is,where he lives and let them hang ,draw and quarter him ?

Aspro - yes I know, a few years ago a workmate of mine was sent to prison after getting involved in a bit of a tear up in a pub (wrong place, wrong time and not his first offence)
Anyway he'd been inside for a couple of days when he was grabbed by a gang of prisoners who wanted to know what he was inside for. A guard was called to verify his story and once believed he was let go and not bothered again.
The guards told him what would have happened to him if he'd been a nonce and it would have been very unpleasant and most deserved.

people like that should never be released. Its just not worth the risk to society and to children.
Maybe a separate prison for such people. Basic food, basic facilities wouldn't want to waste any money on them. Any money or assets they have should be stripped to pay for their prison service and compensation to victims.
Also manual labour jobs inside with no pay just to help out with their upkeep costs.
