Special forces of all nations are just a big ego trip.
In the scheme of things the impact they make is minimal, but people of all nations like to hear that their guys are the best in the world. Boosts the old national pride. |

Agree with that ^
This particular mission was embarrassing for them to try and claim anything though. The SAS like to have all this mysterious garbage behind them like some kind of built up phantom yet on the same hand claim glory at any opportunity. Fantasists |

Indeed. And everyone knows that it was the Barbary Apes who carried out the operation on Gibraltar in 1988. |

Nah..... not the apes. Everyone knows that it was James Bond.

Bravo two zero. Foiled by a teenager walking a herd of cows, absolute amateurs.

I'm sure that the young man could have been silenced if so wished. What were their rules of engagement?

Some of you need a history lesson. The SAS carried out a raid in the key middle East during WW2 and destroyed a whole fleet of German fighter planes with the loss of 3 SAS troops.
Was absolutely key at the time. |

The SAS have a significant impact, what concerns me is the media need to sensationalise every activity and politicians desire to gain reflected glory instead of keeping it all low key.I do believe their most successful operations will have been very discreet.

Best in the world.

The SAS have a significant impact,
Iraq. Yep sorted that one Afghan ,,,that one too Syria. Well I'm sure that one will be boxed off in the next couple of weeks and peace shall reign throughout the land. |

Get real baron, the politicians messed those up big time, the SAS would have to be miracle workers to handle such matters with limited resources, even James Bond would struggle with the scriptwriters on his side !
