I think we've seen this scenario before, where someone running an online business can't sell face-to-face.

The tourist board will have been pleased by the London porn in the opening sequence but it did go on a bit too long; the extracts from future tasks contained spoilers, since any candidates seen are obviously safe from firing this week.

It was ironic that Versatile went from terror at the prospect of being PM to then ignoring the actual PM and all trying to run the task themselves: power without responsibility. For the other lot, April imposed her own choices but ignored the suggestion from her teammate that they cost the dishes. She did the same at the market where she bought from the first stall she saw.

The winning team made about £200 which is about £20 per person per 15-hour day, which is hardly a viable business, though I guess it beats £1.87 for the other lot.

The bit I did not understand was Brett's insistence that the oversized fish cakes met the specification, but it was never explained where the spec came from.

Like many reality TV shows, this one has become a caricature (or a parody) of itself.  It started out as an interesting experiment to find a dynamic young business professional (even Big Brother started as an interesting social experiment on human behaviour), but has allowed itself to morph into a pre-scripted "entertainment" show, where the most extroverted egotistical loudmouth wins regardless of talent or potential.

And just as with the instant (and short-lived) fame accorded to winners of X-Factor and the like, it gives youngsters the false impression that you can set up and run a business in the space of 24 hours.  Anyone with even the most fleeting knowledge of business knows that it takes months of planning, research, development and investment to even get a minimum viable product off the ground, and it can take months, if not years, to start yielding a profit.  Yet we're expected to believe that 24 people living in the same house, can be awoken at 2am, sent to a fish market, then be out selling a finished product inside the space of a morning.  Of course, someone else would have had to organise the transport, equipment, kitchens, van hire, signage, licence to trade, facility to take cash & card payment, waste management, uniforms etc etc.

Competent people might be able to turn round that sort of small operation inside a week or two, but inside of a few hours?  What a load of horsesh!t.
Well past it's sell by date - and I don't just mean the fish.

I wouldn't underestimate the effect of editing on our perception of events.

The show must be unique in that it is a competition apparently requiring a certain set of attributes, yet the winner is determined by a person who has a completely different agenda based on his vested interest.
Report Ramruma • October 19, 2015 10:48 AM BST
@Jack Hacksaw -- I wouldn't underestimate the effect of editing on our perception of events.

Editing -- yes. First the edit needs to show viewers how the task was won and lost, and why the person who got fired deserved to be fired. Especially this early where there are too many candidates, any number of positive contributions may be left on the cutting room floor. If a task takes, say, 20 hours, then 2 teams each having 2 camera crews means 80 hours of footage to be edited down to 20 or 30 minutes of task per episode, and apparently even the final boardroom can take all day, where we get to see 10 minutes or so.

Second, the edit does not need to, but probably will, try to shape our perceptions of the candidates into reality show stereotypes.

I'm not sure that's really true any more. When the prize was a job, Lord Sugar would spend 6 to 8 weeks looking for a brash sales droid, then right at the last minute remember he built his companies by employing people like Nick and Margaret.

But for the investment, I assume all the business plans have some merit and it is about seeing if the people are up to carrying them out -- can they sell, advertise, negotiate and so on? So the tasks are more relevant than they used to be.

The best thing about this years show so far is the seemingly genuine enmity between a few of the women.
That Selina is a sly, passive aggressive biatch who is absolutely brilliant at getting the others backs up - I love her little supercilious smile when she thinks she has scored a point - the Joan Allen look-a-like is on the verge of meltdown every time she pipes up.
Worryingly for the end game, I haven't a clue who the 'good ones' might be yet, usually it's fairly obvious even this early. A poor bunch.

On her Facebook site - suddenly deleted when she was on The Apprentice - she advertises a "little person" who wears fancy dress for clients' amusement. Apparently dwarfs and other small entertainers have become increasingly popular at stag and hen parties.

Dark Horse describes itself as a 'creative production house' and 'Let us know how we can make your event outrageous instead of ordinary'

I'm sure where she did the deal for 50 she also said they could have 150 at £4-odd a unit or 50 for £3-odd a unit - this was never picked up in the boardroom so wondering if I imagined it but other half thought she heard the same - if so that is an utter shocker.
