Home office defence is that's cost no more than usual.
£3k to move 7 family mbrs from Manchester to London ![]() |

I bet the driver thought 'Palace must be away at Man Utd'
By:
Still cheaper than going by train.

Have National Express Coaches ceased to exist then ?
By:
How about the cost of 2nd Class Rail travel or National Coaches being estblished, then this figure deducted from the £3000 stretch limo cost (if it's really true)? Then the resultant excess should be deducted in instalments from the salary of the person or persons who made this incompetent decision.
How about a bit of direct public sector accountability for a change? No chance, of course! |

Just did a very quick Journey Plan on National Express for 7 people traveling from London Heathrow to Manchester Coach Station tomorrow.
Leave Heathrow 12:20 arrive Manchester 16:45 (advertised as fastest journey 4hrs 25 mins) Total Fare for the party : £257.60 one-way. Extra fare obviously if security is needed to escort them, but a good deal less than the £3k mentioned above. |
By:
Suprised they didn't fly the feckers Club class then stretch limo to destination.
By:
They could just rent a mini bus. Security obviously wasn't that high as it was just a standard limo driver.
By:
If they go earlier still, it's less than £200.
By:
Ya can`t put a price on these things.
By:
should have just given them a spacehopper each
By:
LOL.

Wasting 3K of taxpayers' money? FFS if all peers signed in (and no more) on one day that's a quarter of a million gone. And does anyone think that the MP's are claiming anything much less than the absolute maximum they are "entitled" to claim? If there was any real decency in the country these parasites should be first to be taken to task but yet we're up in arms about this minor news story - sorry, one of the top news stories out today.

Shurely they could of found a lorry going that way they could of jumped in the back of whilst the driver was stopped at traffic lights or something.

Diverting the publics' attention from the main problems of our time has gone on for decades.
Amazing example last week :- BBC reporter actually said ''hopefully, football fans can now begin to 'move on' from this'' (talking about Sepp Blatter) FIFA was number 1 news story. Meanwhile the middle east is in chaos, millions trying to get into Europe, USA looking to implode within itself. The world seems a very dangerous place at the moment. Come on .... who really gives a feck about Sepp? Does it really affect Joe Public? |
By:
Perhaps it doesn't, but the other situations have been the Status Quo for years. That hardly constitutes 'news'.
Mind you, I suppose Sepp's been fiddlin' for years! |
By:
It's only public money, haven't you all realised there is no need to be careful with public money ?

The staggering and infuriating thing about this story is that wherever you look for a modicum of common sense and best use of taxpayers money you won't find any.
Firstly, of course, the seven African men clearly have no business whatsoever in Britain in the first place, since they are able to claim Asylum in any number of safe countries between here and their homeland(s). And as we have already seen above, the choice of a Stretch Limousine as their means of ferrying them around is a most inappropriate one. I'd like to think the Stretch Limo wasn't deliberately chosen to enrage the responsible taxpayer, but who knows these days? As we can visibly see from the newspaper link below, the 'Enrichment' of the village of Longford is in full cry. I'm sure the locals area already profoundly grateful, right? . http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3271045/Pictured-50-000-luxury-stretch-Hummer-used-ferry-asylum-seekers-London-Manchester-village-complained-deluged.html |

It's the BetFairBuddy Mobile (in disgust) imo.
By:
The limousine must have been arranged out of devilment in my view, Al, no other plausible reason when a standard minibus for a few hundred quid would be perfectly adequate.

public officials whether it be the bbc or the government are not exactly frugal when it comes to spending other people's money

Strech on it's road to Newham, last I heard.

probably the only journey of that limos life where the champers remained uncorked.
By:
PM…. I tend to agree. What other rational explanation can there be for the hire of the Limo, other than as a deliberate 'two fingers' to the taxpayer?
By:
Taxpayers are pusssies. They may grumble and then like goldfish it is forgotten about. Bolllocks to em.

By:
Ironic that it's from BBC news as they're as guilty as anyone for wasting taxpayers money by hiring cars to ferry everyone around.
By:
People have got to sit in that limo after they've soiled it.
By:
12 mpg max....

A client was selling his wife's car and wanted £3.5k for it.
Three Croatians turned up in a van, and with no haggling said they would have it, and would come back next day with a cheque. He says he can't accept a cheque but is then told it's from "The DSS" and he can cash it at a post office. They are buying him a car to help him look for work!!! |
