A good way of trying it maybe is to install it as a virtual machine using virtual box

I've had a validating (notify me when I'm ready) for about 5 months
Not much has happened |
|
By:
Installed itself a couple of days ago after the above went on for 3 month
The only negative I have is when you click on something there is a 2-3-4 second delay before the cursor will move Example so logging in to anything you put in the user name and go to move to the password box and hay presto 2-3-4 sec freeze before the cursor will move other than that..... |

I've never understood what any of these 'Windows' things are.
I don't think I've ever had any. |

TT providing a window into his world.
I installed windows 10 around a week ago from windows 8.1 there are lots of things such as games which if you click on them they want you to pay. it said you could revert to your previous windows if you preferred ... I'm happy with it except I can't find notebook or the files I had created when I used it such as telephone numbers. Any help welcome. |
|
By:
When you say Notebook, do you mean notepad?
If so, those files are saved as .txt files - if you go to the search bar next to the starrt button and type " *.txt " (without quotes) and then click on "my stuff", it should search your documents for those files. |

Installing a new operating system means that you have to submit yourself a major educational exercise, simply to achieve what you could already do with your old set up before you started.
Everything looks different. Most things have a different name. Things have been rearranged and put in a different place. And when you've learned it all, you don't do a single thing extra that you wasn't doing with your old system. |

That's it in a nutshell. Change for changes sake. They have made minimal progress since XP.

well said stow,agree with that

its probably an age thing where people are happy to stick with what they know, the young bucks are continually looking for change.for my part i much prefer the nokia phone i had 10 years ago to the multifuntional nightmare iv got now.

The pointless change that annoyed me, was the windows explorer one from xp to vista. Instead of cross hairs for expanding a folder or directory, where you had some precision, they changed to a broad triangle.

Is that a windows phone? A mate of mine bought one and it's totally untuitive, if you understand my made-up word.

I have new laptops which I have upgraded to 10.
Quite honestly there are masses of widows everywhere which almost seem to have minds of their own- really weird. I always liked Xp and 7, but have gone with the flow as there won't be another windows(so they say) and it will just be continual updates/grades done on line rather than introduce a new system(so they say. I became tired of the continual shift to new systems, Windows 95 then 98, xp, vista,7 then 8!!!! About 90 percent of the capability I just don't use !!!The simpler the better for me. |

Dr Crippen nailed it.
If I return, as promised, to Windows 8 will all my files return to their old places ? |

Instead of my photos being in a folder named photographs they have divided them ( like facebook) into albums

like all Microsoft products, they peaked about 10 years ago, anything they've done since has just been a nightmare

I didn't want it, but unfortunately had automatic updates turned on one of my machines and Microsoft pushed it out via this. Rather than fight it, I installed it.
It ran for 2 days, then this morning I got a "Critical Error, Start Menu and Cortana aren't working" box pop up on boot up and stay there. It was true, no start menu, no taskbar icons, no internet. Looking through google, this is a widespread, well known problem and has been for sometime. There are many suggestions how to work around it, but if it helps anyone, my solution was to press F8 during bootup. Nothing appears to happen, and it didn't go into safe mode, but after a while it did start up as normal, and is ok right now. I'd like to say it surprises me Microsoft pushes out rubbish like this, but it doesn't. |

i tried it, didn't like various things about it so rolled back to my original windows 7. Took over 4 hours to install windows 10 in the first place but only 10 mins to uninstall
