As long as you have a modernish TV, you should be able to use an HDMI cable to connect them. I play films through my laptop like that.

Also, if you have a particularly messy thing to do on your computer, you can use the cable to turn the TV into an additional screen (i.e. once you drag something far enough right on your laptop, it goes off your laptop screen and onto the left of your TV). Gives you double the space and makes you look very important as well.

I use this cable, so I can watch my bbc I-player downloads from the laptop, through the tv;
10 Metre GOLD HDMI v1.4A PREMIUM Cable HDTV 3D 1080P 2160P Full HD Lead Metre £11.50
They also come in 5 Metre and 10 Metre lengths,
if your TV does not have the HDMI Connector,
it must be usb2.

Buy a chromecast plug in,tune it in to your broadband then cast from your laptop to tv , no cables needed.

Just usb to hdmi is all you need. Xhamster on the big telly :-D
