Left Sky yesterday after 16 years and joined Virgin.Everything was installed,Phone,Broadband,Tele(two boxes multi room)BT Sports,Movies,Sky Sports £62 for 9 months then of course the price increases.Broadband speed excellent, now getting 93m instead of my previous 4.
Now here's the nasty bit. When i first contacted Virgin i was told all the sports would be in HD.BT are but NOT Sky sports.I would never have signed up if that had been explained to me on the initial call.Having watched my favourite sports, Cricket and Golf, in HD quality their is no way i can now watch them in standard quality..bit like going out with Bella Emberg after dating Rachael Riley.
Anyway phoned Virgin and explained my predicament only to be told i could have HD pictures but it would cost me a further £7 per month.I told them i was misinformed and told them to cancel my order to which they replied ,impossible, the equipment has already been installed and you cannot cancel.I have read my contract and it does state once the equipment has been installed you cannot cancel.I was led to believe the customer has a 14 day cooling off period..what would you lot do?
Damn annoying when you were 'misinformed', but probably your best option now, lesson learnt, pay the £7 if you want HD pictures. (although you are right about the 14-day cooling off period, 14 days from placing your order).

Weren't worth the hassle, you should have just cancelled Sky and they would have come back with a really good retention offer, particularly after being with them for 16 years.
Virgin media is rubbish compared to Sky anyway. The interface is ridiculously slow.

Treble..i did cancel and surprisingly they didn't come back with an "offer"...the main reason i changed was for the faster broadband and the news Sky has lost the Aussie cricket to BT..just love the Big Bash 20/20 in January/Feb.Waiting from a call back from Virgin to see what they might offer(if anything)...not expecting any favours however.

very surprising SKY didn't offer anything. I got rid of SKY TV (I kept the broadband) in May and have had 11 emails offering anything from 60% off for a year, a free TV, 100 quid credit, all sorts of gubbins. No way am I going back though.

I got rid of it when they lost the champions league to BT, but still put their prices up (and several months earlier than usual). I'm very disillusioned with football nowadays anyway, so not bothered. As it turns out, I got an android box with KODI and can stream football if really needs be or go down the pub and watch it.
The only real sports loss for me was going to be NFL, so I bought a season NFL gamepass and can now watch any game I like in HD when I want. Cost 130 quid a year, but I think it's a bargain (I know it doesn't help with your golf or cricket though )
For other stuff, I replaced the sky box with a freesat box and have been surprised how much there is out there if you look around.

by the way, I was with sky 17 years, similar to you. Maybe because I kept the broadband they made the offers, or possibly they somehow know I didn't move to another TV provider

Unbelievable...just took a call 10 mins ago from Sky offering me a half price deal.I told the fella i have already have Virgin installed and he was a bit late.Anyway to cut a long story short the deal he offered wasn't that great...£62 for 10mnths with no contract.Told him i was paying Virgin that for 9 mnts adding that my broadband is now far superior and i also have extra BT sports and movies. Not a lot he could say to that.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about with HD, I can barely tell the difference. Your 'normal' channels are crystal clear so it doesn't spoil your viewing of a game/programme.

When I cancelled phoned sky tv one time to cancel, within the cooling off period post installation. They said that it was okay to cancel and I could even keep all the cr.ap that they gave me...satelite dish, sky box and all
