Hilary Clinton: Not very affable person ,as most elected presidents are .Email and Benghazi scandals will drag on and on . Supposedly the overwhelming favourite of Democratic voters but this was meant to be the case 8 years ago before Obama beat her.

Jeb Bush: Performing very poorly in polls (5th of Republicans) and not doing well in debates either .Has more money than anyone except Trump to spend on attack ads when things get more serious though.

Joe Biden: Vice President .Likeable in a way Hilary will never be . Not actually in the race atm (this seems to be 50-50 whether he will join likely to decide in next 2 weeks) .Lots of people clearly want him to . If he becomes a candidate will likely be in to about 4.4 and Hilary drifting to 3.6 . Does have a lot of stuff in his past that will be dragged up though ; his first presidential bid was doomed when he was caught plaigirising Neil Kinnock and also know for gaffes ( most notably at a rally shouting "Stand up Chuck!" to a democratic politician who was receiving a round of applause. Chuck had been a paraplegic for 30 years)

Marco Rubio: By far the youngest of the main candidates , impressive in the senate on foriegn policy , he has the most momentum of the Republicans in recent weeks , halving in price on here .Only 3rd in the republican polls atm but seen as likely to pick up most of the supporters of the many who are going to drop out before January.

Bernie Sanders ; Is basically an American version of Jeremy Corbyn . That Hilary cannot convincingly even see him off in the democratic polls is one of the reasons they want Biden in.

General guide to the main contenders

Donald Trump : Still leading the republican polls ,was expected to fall away months ago but no sign yet.

Carly Fiorana : Running 3rd or 4th in the republican polls . Did well in the latest debate.

Ben Carson: Black guy who is running a close 2nd to Trump in the Republican polls . Was a brilliant surgeon prior to recently entering politics .Should have impressive scientific credentials then but is a bible basher who doesnt believe in evolution .Stabbed someone when he was 14 which he has turned to his advantage by saying that Jesus intervened .

Chris Christie:  Governor of New Jersey . Has some impressive credentials but trailing badly in polls . Like Jeb Bush though he is endorsed by powerful people in the Republican Party . A bizarre scandal involving the creating of traffic jams to annoy a mayor he didnt like hangs over him somewhat .He denied all knowledge himself and many of his aides resigned saying the Governor knew nothing of it.

Jeb is a likeable guy and would beat Hilary imo . He is not liked by the Republican activists though.

jeb personality free; reminds me of burnham/kendall/cooper who got steamrollered by corbyn as they utterly lacked any charisma to spark the voters.

Hillary, I just can't see her winning, she's not likeable enough.

At the odds I like Trump. As the chances are high that if this toupee-wearing egomaniac gets his hands on the red-button, world war three will be imminent, then it's worth investing a bet to pay for that nuclear shelter Crazy

Totally unfair to compare Sanders with a lunatic like Corbyn. Sure he is on the left but he has thoughtful and sensible solutions and for example the idea that increasing inheritance tax on estates over 3.5 million or a living wage that matches the one Osbourne has brought in hardly amount to marxism,

Rubio and Cruz very strong now in the betting .

Cruz a good tip @80 by Wildmanfromborneo

Oddly Rubio and Cruz are still fairly distant 3rd and 4th in the actual Republican polls . Trump and Carson still 1&2 but i guess people just think they are both nuts and just can't see it.

poor old Jeb looks dead in the water .Has just been made a mug of in every debate.

My best positions are Rubio and Cruz . I did back Jeb though a little when he went above 30.

I don't follow it too closely but the last 6 Republican nominees, stretching back to Ronnie Raygun, were all leading at this stage in party endorsements (representatives, senators and governors.) Jeb Bush is the current frontrunner, even if he's struggling elsewhere.

Sanders a hit with Millennial women

WASHINGTON — Young women could make history by helping elect the first woman president, but many of them are turning to the oldest white guy in the field.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, 74, a Vermont independent, will head into the Democratic presidential debate Sunday with a 19-point lead over front-runner Hillary Clinton, 50% to 31%, among Democratic and independent women ages 18 to 34, according to a recent USA TODAY/Rock the Vote poll.

This starts for real on Monday with the Iowa caucusus .

Bernie really needs to win both this and New Hampshire next week to have a chance .Polls very tight in both.

Ted Cruz has drifted as he was well ahead in polls for Iowa and now is 7-8 pts behind Trump .IMO though he will still win as the religous right vote in Iowa is always underestimated - getting typically 15 pts more than in the polls . Cruz is the only candidate the bible bashers have.

Rubio is shortening lately as polls predict he will be clear in 3rd and so at that point Jeb and Christie may drop out and Rubio will be the sole plausible candidate of the sane Republicans .

Bloomberg is planning to run as an independent if the 2 main parties have Sanders and Trump .

Biden has inexplicably shortened and Betfair also added a Republican , Nikki Haley , who has not been matched for a penny.

I backed Kasich @900+

He is nowhere in Iowa but has made a massive effort in New Hampshire where he has personally met almost everyone who lives there and if he is Top 2 there may be prefered to Rubio for the rest of the campaign by the party establishment .

forget the republican race, still a frank debate with 3 or 4 viable possibilities with some clear variables which the market reflects.

the real volatility is on the democratic side where you have a basket case and a nutcase as the only two options and with one as a heavy favourite. some factors to note:

clinton generally disliked within the current admin
clinton carries many extremely serious allegations
clinton could very possibly be indicted
clinton has numerous health issues
the party threw her under the bus last time for a totally unknown, unqualified and unproven junior senator, because they knew the us liberals would vote for anything that was put in front of them that was suitable colour, gender etc

as with all things, there are numerous scenarios, july to november is a long stretch so she may be nominated but not get to the election, there are many opportunities for the party in this situation, and if she were the only female available this would be very likely, but there are other identity politics options.

bernie the only other card being shown by the party currently, it will fool some of the people some of the time, but a bit like the 3 option trick where you are offered to be raped orally or anally, then eventually get the 3rd offer to buy a time share condo in florida.

It's a strange take on things that views the Democrat race as being the more volatile when the AP favourite is currently trading at 1.22, whereas the apparently less volatile GOPsh!te field is currently headed by an odds-on poke who traded at 300+ and the early favourite is now a 14s chance.

Seems Ted Cruz is finished with this 'voter violation' thing.

His campaign sent out letters to Iowa residents telling them they will be shamed publicly if they don't vote. Letters have a bogus 'Official!' stamp on them.

How dumb is that . People there maybe switching to Rubio now.
