Came to our local club a couple of months ago Sultan, his boy Joel was playing against our colts. Quite a few people there, all sat on chairs we'd put out along the straight and long-off boundary in front of our clubhouse.
So Nasser gives his boy a bit of last-minute advice and goes and sits on a bench right over the other side of our ground at fine-leg, cap pulled down over his face, avoiding all human contact, to watch his boy bat. Our star player, who is ten - this is an under-13 match - promptly comes in and bowls the young Hussain neck and crop. The lad troops off to his Dad, who goes through ten minutes of demonstrating the forward defensive before they pack up their stuff and go. No disgrace to get bowled by our boy though, I've never been more certain that someone will play professional sport. |

good story jed. A very good friend of mine has a son who's a very good all rounder. We regularly fantasise
about him playing for England one day and us getting free tickets. |

I felt a bit sorry for Nasser as it happens, got a massive amount of time for him after he re-inserted some backbone into English cricket.
Not the most clubbable of chaps at the best of times, and obviously not keen to get involved with all the Mums and Dads on days like the one above, ends up ostracising himself to avoid all the small talk and back-slapping. |
