Russian marines clashed with ISIS near Latakia, Syria, on Sunday, according to Russian media.

During the fight the marines allegedly killed several militants and captured others after ISIS attempted to attack an airbase operated by Russian military, reported the Russian newspaper Segodnya.

Interestingly, the newspaper also reported the ISIS militants “possessed a detailed plan of the air base and clear satellite imagery with the marked key military installations,” but Russia has only been operating the airbase for the past week or so.

That begs the question: who provided ISIS with that kind of intelligence?

Russian activity at the airbase ramped up Friday upon the arrival of advanced Russian fighter jets, including four Su-30SM Flankers which are loose equivalents to the U.S. F/A-18F Hornet.
“It is considered one of the most advanced aircraft in Russia’s inventory with updated avionics and a wide array of weapons at its disposal,” Jalopnik.com reported. “Sixty of the jets are planned to be delivered to Russian forces by next year.”

I've said it before, we should at least explore diplomatic options with Ivan, to defeat ISIS, if not military.

Germany’s ZDF public television network headlines on Tuesday September 22nd, “New U.S. Atomic Weapons to Be Stationed in Germany,” and reports that the U.S. will bring into Germany 20 new nuclear bombs, each being four times the destructive power of the one that was used on Hiroshima.

Hans Kristensen, the Director of the Nuclear Information Project at the Federation of American Scientists, says, “With the new bombs the boundaries blur between tactical and strategic nuclear weapons.”

A former Parliamentary State Secretary in Germany’s Defense Ministry, Willy Wimmer, of Chancellor Merkel’s own conservative party, the Christian Democratic Union, warns that these “new attack options against Russia” constitute “a conscious provocation of our Russian neighbors.”

German Economic News also reports on Chancellor Merkel’s decision to allow these terror-weapons against Russia: “The Bundestag decided in 2009, expressing the will of most Germans, that the US should withdraw its nuclear weapons from Germany. But German Chancellor Angela Merkel did nothing.” And now she okays the U.S. to increase America’s German-based nuclear arsenal against Russia.

Russia is to deploy 2,000 military personnel to its new air base near the Syrian port city of Latakia, signalling the scale of Moscow’s involvement in the war-torn country.

From The New York Times, on the buildup at Latakia:

The deployment of some of Russia’s most advanced ground attack planes and fighter jets as well as multiple air defense systems at the base near the ancestral home of President Bashar al-Assad appears to leave little doubt about Moscow’s goal to establish a military outpost in the Middle East. The planes are protected by at least two or possibly three SA-22 surface-to-air, antiaircraft systems, and unarmed Predator-like surveillance drones are being used to fly reconnaissance missions.

This is all very interesting as it was the    United States that   “Created” ISIS as a “Tool” to topple Syrian president Bashir al-Assad who stands in the way of a critical natural gas pipeline that would depose Russia as Europe’s primary source of energy.
This is why Putin's sending troops in to defend the  Assad Regime.

Obama's move.

while the US didn't "create" isis as such, they did create the vacuum through the hasty surrender in iraq and support for the muslim brothers and the so called arab spring, all while doing the minimum to combat isis and others.
the russians have an advantage in that isis command and control structure is based around that of the stasi and stems from saddam era baathists, so the putin admin will understand it well.
now you have iran which controls vast areas of the mid east, being allied with russia and syria, with the possibility of china considering a move. china has over 2 million well equipped active troops and another 1 million reserves, isis has maybe 30,000.

Inclined to agree with roger on this one, playing diplomatic games will rebound on all of us if ISIS gather momentum.Talk to Russia and Assad to do the dirty work our media recoil from and wipe them out sooner rather than later when the price will be so much higher.
