Well I will never learn. This was a bloody stupid idea as we now have 70% + cloud cover, and increasing.
Got the big canvass canopy up, and thank God it's still. Couple of patio heaters and lubricated with Sangria (including half a bottle of brandy) and we'll all be fine. Well I will as I don't have to drive home...... ![]() |

Got to have cajun salmon on it (nap). And whole sweetcorns.
And chicken pieces marinated in something. And baked potatoes. And chorizo sausages Chilled Pinot Grigio. Forget steaks - vastly over-rated IMO. I'll be round just after 3 What's the address again? |

Well that could not have been better!
The last of my guests disappeared into the sunset and we didn't even need the heaters! The cloud moved East which meant the low sun from the West was with us all afternoon! Highlights were Katie, 13 year old daughter of friends, being hammered on Sangria. Not my fault as I can't be responsible for everyone! Someone who should know better, taking my bike on "Le Tour Chez Nous" and ending upside down in a flower bed! Oh, and my improvised dessert of fruit from the Sangria, with "Total" Greek Yogurt...... ![]() |

....and sorry, the biggest highlight was the balloon, moving really slowly and low overhead, and I was thinking it was some of "The Guys"
trying to gate crash! |

I think there must have been something on in York yesterday as we had hot air balloons over the house first thing in the morning and then just before sunset.
Glad you enjoyed the barbie Aunty. |

Often get them flying from the racecourse and what a beautiful sight they are.
Yesterday was just perfect for them with wonderful clear skies and safe take off/landings because of dead calm at ground level. Incredibly today is more of the same so have to take good advantage. |

BBQ for me tonight here in Warwickshire.
Fine warm morning but now overcast and cooler ... but I'm still going ahead. Starters is large glass of Pino G followed by chorizo burger, sausages, cajun salmon (mmm lovely) and lamb steak smothered in mint saucy suff for wife (horrible - lamb, not wife) along with large glass of pinot g. to follow, several large glasses of pinot g. Well, you've got to do it, may be last BBQ until next weekend. |
|
By:
Well if the weather really does break down, just have a few bottles of Pinot G, and put the grub in the freezer....

Nice to swap tips on BBQ.
I can relate to the idea of Cajun Salmon, but definitely not on a BBQ! I presume you must do this in a foil parcel, or on the griddle plate with the hood down, but I just don't see this as BBQ food. Is this something that all your guests relish as I don't see my lot tucking into it? I like the sound of the "Chorizo Burger" so will give this a 'dummy run. for myself next fine day. It certainly won't be the worse for serving without the skin, which I always do with "Pepperoni" also. Do you just serve it "aux naturelle" (perhaps in a bun) or with some other accompaniments? Actually I'm salivating thinking about it! |

chorizo burgers from M & S
Cajun salmon ... just take a salmon steak, oil the top, sprinkle generously with cajun spices. (I sound like a TV chef). The just put on BBQ rack, along with burger (hotplate, griddle or foil is for wimps IMO). Cook for about 10 mins ... don't turn ... skin goes black and salmon gradually cooks up from bottom - you'll see when it's done. And then gobble it up, skin and everything, as quickly as possible ... yum, yum, yum Don't forget lashings of pinot. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

chorizo burgers from M & S
Seriously disappointed. I thought this was your own concoction! Why buy pre-made BBQ food? It seriously couldn't be easier to make your own, and that's much of the pleasure, and certainly why your guests will turn up at minutes notice! Out of interest, how much per Kg are M&S "Chorizo Burgers" compared to "Chorizo Sausages"? Don't get me wrong, it's not just a question of price but of integrity of the finished product! I honestly couldn't hold my head up if I served off the peg products. Invite a couple of friends for dinner, and serve two M&S "Dine In" meals for two! |

FFS I don't share my BBQs ... just eat them all myself - occasional sausage for wife!
But seriously - you can't make your own sausages for BBQ, shirley. So what's wrong with M&S burgers? Next you'll be telling me you ride out on to the Great Yorkshire Plains, slaughter a cow and serve blackened rib eye to guests who have just dropped in. And Delta, pinot grigio is a fine wine, it's dependable, good value and doesn't make my head ache afterwards. I'm fed up with white Loire valley and white burgundy overpriced and disappointing stuff. |

Yeah CB...glad I spent time in the garden today...shooting guns, and riding my mower...
![]() Interesting thing I didn't mention before is that when I took the "AWT" cover from my gas BBQ (I do use a charcoal one too) is that something had been living in the storage area! In there was charcoal, and a box of various hardwood chippings for smoking. The box was well chewed, and the individual bags had been also chewed! I never saw droppings like these, as they were pale, and sort of "clustered"! Certainly not rats, or mice, or squirrels! Can't consider what the hell they are! |

Yeah, that's the spirit. Keep it all to yourself. No, I don't make my own sausages (see earlier comment) but I am still going to make these "Chorizo Burgers" as they sound fab! We don't have M&S in my village, and I seriously don't remember when I last visited one! Lost my love fourteen years ago, so it was well before that, and I think we once picked up some 'lunchy stuff' in Coppergate, and sat in the sunshine, in front of "York St Mary's" for simple pleasure.... ![]() |
