In the next two decades 35% of all jobs will be automated so says a study by Oxford university.
So much for a need for immigration to plug the shortfall of an aging population

Be civil war between the underclasses by that stage
Unless they are planning on inventing a robot which can sit around all day drinking cans of special brew and eating pot noodles the average Englishman can sleep easy tonight.
It's a serious situation already whenever I go into my local bank they are pushing me to do online banking, I go into my local supermarket there is only 3 or 4 of the 20 checkouts that are manned but there are plenty auto tills.
I drive for a living you can already buy self parking cars the last few years we have been told follow the leader wagons are on the way.
I know you can't halt progress, but it is very worrying to think what the future will be for your kids.

I'm hoping all the jobs will be automated and the money still comes to me.
They could make it that you have a robot that represents every citizen like a sponsor. they do the work and you get the money.
Let's face it the robots don't need the cash. If everyone is unemployed who will pay for the robot's output.

50pc of secretaries replaced by computers in the last 20 years
In the future, will the robots need a 50pc turnout, if they want to go on strike?

So would you if you had any instead your a 50 year old virgin
They were saying this 40years ago, claiming it would be a 20 hr working week....surprisingly people today work more days and longer hrs than at any time in mankinds history.
The answer is simply population control , stop all breeding in thr UK and all immigration until population is about 5000 or even less and start again..this should be the first country to go backwards.
Yep. Another fallacy from years back - ' will soon be a cashless society '
People dream of finding a new planet, all we have to do over a couple of generations is stop reproducing and then that final few lucky people will wake up one morning and in different parts of a beautiful earth find they are the new adam and eve on a new planet
Not really a new adam and eve but a new first generation...as if it was about a few years after the world began, it would be very exciting.
think we are already seeing the effects of automisation.
if it gets to 35% any government in charge will have a massive deficit with no chance of ever being able to repay it

Came on here to say almost the same thing - couldn't agree more
I agree this has been said for many years but eventually we will reach a point that those without skills will find it very difficult to compete with a machines.
This is an interesting video if you have 90 minutes to spare (and you haven't seen it already). It's called Aftermath Population Zero and tells the story of what would happen if every human on the planet suddenly disappeared and how life, as we know it, relies on human intervention.

Everyone will be doing PhDs about the impact of robots on society.
They will be replaced by robots doing PhDs about people doing PhDs about robots.
They will be replaced by robots doing PhDs about people doing PhDs about robots.
a robot tax will be brought in to pay for people on the dole or the whole system will collapse.
Maybe they want the world to go into meltdown.
Then they can bump most of the human race off and have robots skiving after the new world order instead.
