The BBC is a unique organization in that it is owned by the license fee payers? This was repeated frequently in the debate in the Lords yesterday.
I own the BBC? Can I view their archive and download the files to my desktop (maybe input my license fee number to get a pass). Get some MPEG's or AVI files - like YOUTUBE.
No - but BBC iplayer can be watched? If you can stomach that the player is utter ballz.

the BBC is a trust - making it invulnerable from critics.

If you are a late payer, they send you to prison or fine you £1000. Ten percent of court cases in the UK deals with the license fees. So if you don't own a piece of the action you become an enemy of the BBC.

I was watching freeview when I came across all the past BBC lovies talking up the BBC.
Guss MacDonald, Melvyn Bragg and Lady Bakewell? Every second Lord that stood up had to reveal that they had vested interests in the BBC. Some were producers of content for the BBC. Some where past contributors. They all loved the BBC. I also would love the BBC if they paid me.
