Looking to save on Sports package and really only want Sky Sports 4 for the PGA golf, as rarely watch any other sport, but on website I think you have to take a bundle for all sports channels, anyone know any different or am I screwed to pay for premiership footballers wages for another year?
If youve less than a month to go phone up and say you feel you have to cancel as you cant afford but youd ideally like to keep it all .Youll be offered a decent discount most likely (unless you get through to someone whos finishing work in 5 minutes and has to catch a bus) .And , yes , if you turn that down and put the 31 days notice to cancel you will get a better offer before that month is up.
And even then if it does cancel youll have another offer down the line to rejoin which would be better again.

I'm in a similar situation to you ...i only watch the cricket and golf and resent paying for stuff i don't watch so phoned Sky up last week and cancelled after being with them for over 16 years. The "deal" they offered me was more than Virgin so have decided to move over with hopefully a much faster broadband.Have to say i found the c/s at Virgin far friendlier and more professional.

I've just swapped from Virgin to Sky, I've saved 20% on my monthly bills and I added Sky Movies (and box sets) which I didn't have with Virgin. Virgin rang up 2 days after I put my cancelation notice through and offered me a deal, I'd have took it if they offered me that earlier but they wouldn't play ball at the time and tried to put it up.

Gents. Every time I have seen a thread like this or similar lately I have posted something........I'll be brief this is my story.
Sky customer since day one until last few months.Used to pay about £115 per month had the full lot multi room hd etc, then BT on top which with euro went up to 20 so I used to pay between 135-150 per month if I booked the odd box office movie etc. Bought a Android box,my wife set it all up.cost of box £30 we get everything you could imagine from here in UK to all around the world, watch prem footy sat 3pm if thats your bag. All I pay now is £20 per month for broadband/phone and £6 per month to online company called sports mania. So I am about £125 better of per month for much greater choice........unless you have money than you can count £125 per month is a worthwhile saving and getting more!!!! Some guys on betfair were telling me for ages to do this and in truth I feel stupid for not having done it sooner.
Android box set up can be a pain, but go online and you tube and when its done its done. seriously you should look into this, though if you want to stay with sky leave them, they will offer you very good deal, just offered me full package(not multi room)inc broadband for about 45 i think it was...

Just installed an Amazon firebox added Kodi and Wookie, this week.
Firebox replaced our excellent firestick, due to hard ethernet connection (no buffering) and optical connection to 5.1 theatre.
Long term to replace our Sky HD package
This week watched Gravity flawlessly in 1080 and amazing 5.1 sound, Everton v Chelsea yesterday (which was on BT, which we don't pay for with Sky) and currently engrossed in a few episodes of never seen S1 of 'House Of Cards' (Kevin Spacey / Netflix version)
Total cost £50 for the box when it was on offer last month £10-£15 for decent hdmi, optical and long ethernet cable to main box
Couple of hours to set it up physically and digitally.

... admittedly the Everton v Chelsea was NBC (Jim Proudfoot and Kevin Kilbane) and the quality was a bit less than Sky's live football HD, but better than their live SD somewhere in between.

Go and buy one today and I can help set it up. It took me around an hour to set it up, we watched the Man U v Liverpool match yesterday albeit with not a great stream. Movies and TV shows work a treat though in glorious HD.
Neworder, I'm sending you a PM.

That Fire TV stick varies in price. It's been as low as £20 and £35 is about the maximum price it reaches. If you can hold off to Black Friday it will drop in price again but if you want one today, Argos is your best bet.
You need a strong enough internet service to stream but it's not hard to set up. There's quite a few guides online which is how I done it. It's not ifficult though and you can't break anything.

I (still) pay Virgin £80 PM, we get BT Sports free but I only watch the odd game so I'm not getting any value out of the service. I really should phone and cancel as my contract is well up. All I need is internet and there are many good deals out there.
I use the Fire TV stick to watch box sets when I go to bed. I've got through most of Breaking Bad and all of the Walking Dead + Wayward Pines. I also watched the first episode of the 1960's "The Prisoner" the other night. You can literally find anything on it.
I've trie a Now TV Box, a Chromecast and now this and the Fire TV stick is by far the best out of the 3. I love the gadget.

The FireStick is indeed better than several of the other options, I've seen around that other people have. But upgrading to the Fire Box has been well worth it, the Quad core processor, ethernet and up to 7.1 options increase stablility and quality so much more.
Only using Kodi / Wookie options.
Haven't touched the inbuilt Amazon software at all, because we don't have Prime.

The box is twice the price though? I'll maybe consider it when I know it will drop price on Black Friday.
I use the BBC I-Player App along with some other free streaming services that can be legitimately installed. I've even a N64 Emulator but no controller to play it with. I can also sideload Betfair Poker but I can't fully get it working. It's such a versatile little device.

We brought an Apple box about a year or so ago to stream movies through the IPAD to the telly, we only used it a few times and don't bother with it at all now.

For those that don't know, Kodi is a media player and Genesis is a plug in for Kodi that streams movies and TV Shows. There are many plug ins available for Kodi, some better than others but if one doesn't work then just try another.
Installing Kodi onto the Fire Stick is the hardest bit but there are many guides out there. I had a bit of trouble so I uninstalled it and am using an older version of Kodi. In all it took me an hour to set up but if you know what your doing it could be done in 10 minutes.

we switched isengards as the new one seemed less stable so yep install kodi (not the newest one)then just select add ons........bit like you took about an hour messing on you tube and then doing settings etc but well worth it after that..........so twizzle once its set up you can just switch on,selct what you want and watch..........as I am about to!
p.s my advice is unistall everything as this can give cache probs then just install what you want, mine came fully loaded which was a selling point from them and appealed to me but turns out your best doing it yourself........and you can do this on all your android devices....so phones, tablets etc all hooked up in this house, amazed we have time to talk to each other/!!

Just checked out Sportsmania. That's awesome. £50 a year and every stream I checked works fine and all PPV's as well. The sky sports 1 HD stream is as good as my telly I kid you not. The on demand movie list is awesome too. I think I'll watch Southpaw tonight. That is on Genesis now too though. I just feel a paid for service might be a bit more stable.

Im the exact opposite. I have the fire box and have only used it with prime upto now that I have also. Generally it works ok with the prime, but the official apps for watching normal telly legitly are woeful, and I mean wooooooooooful. They crash regulally even on infinity and wired connection. Prime was the first thing I used it for and on viewing its w4nk attempt at providing FTA tv coupled with the experience Id had with apps on other devices for sports that constantly crash or have their own glitches I never bothered adding the other stuff to it.
Ill probs be back with virgin soon. Whatever people say about the free illicit stuff, there are still major drawbacks to it imo

as Oval said earlier and I think i did too get genesis add on,can watch all top movies though some have chinese?korean? subtitles. box sets great as well just finishing penny farthing i dont know why i paid so much for tv for so long.......

Dusty I am sure there are issues and maybe I have been lucky? I have prime(free wife got it free for 12 months) dont really use it though.
I think if someone(and not all want to and thats fine)wants to save £100+ per month and yes maybe have the odd issue its worth it? on what I was paying I am saving nearly 2k a year..........thats nearly a nice holiday:)

I know what you're saying neworder (except the free wife bit ) But Ive found not pausing live sports or rewinding is a real issue for me, plus the ones on ipad crash or arnt available always at the point I want em. Say a wicket has falled at cricket or goal at football I just think for me paying but breaking their balls on price is best option

no, you cant watch those with packages. For films and stuff then goin that way is ok, but at the risk of sounding paranoid Id do a bit of reading about things changing in the background if I were you. The rights providers are well aware whats happening and laws are being changed, ok SOPA and PIPA were defeated first time, but they arnt letting go. Even over here politicians are talking about the subject. You think its just free tv then you might get a shock down the road.

I know ppl will be laughing at that. I hope it doesnt come to that tbh, not because I circumvent the rights myself but because I think the holders take the piss and are allowed to get away with loads of **** at the expense of the customer. But then who do politicians really work for?

I get your point I think one of the reasons I was against the box etc was I have always been against "pirating"and still dont like fake goods........but my wife was always a massive user of pirate bay and I guess I just thought I have paid tonnes in taxes and tv package rates for years why dont I get something for "free"

its the classic case of getting what you pay for imo reliability function (livepause red button series record etc) and peace of mind have value to me so I go that way but I perfectly understand why people do it other ways

There have been many threads on this subject, and I have always felt obliged to post about Dreambox/Android. I was usually surprised at the lack of enthusiasm, but then remembered that it took a while for me to believe the hype, and make the leap. Most pleasing, therefore, to open this thread expecting the usual negativity, only to see that, all of a sudden, the tide has turned! Sky`s days are numbered.

Bought one of the boxes the other day for £40. It's called the MXQ. Linky - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MXQ-Quad-Core-Android-TV-Box-Fully-Loaded-KODI-XBMC-Free-Sports-Film-Movies-UK-/141778513478?ha****m2102a86e46
Excellent. Comes with pretty much everything included. Has sportmania installed so you just need to sign up at sportsmania.eu, put your username and password in and go. Currently watching the brum derby in much better quality than you'll get on a general stream. Also nice to have RUK finally as well. Genesis is preinstalled as well for all your movie needs.
The only think not installed is any XXX stuff, but there is an app called whitecream that is pretty easy to install if you are into all that. They appear to be currently running a talk show called Jerry Shagher.
Cant wait to tell Sky to shove it. Will have to crawl back eventually though as all this will surely be wiped out one day. I dont know how it's surviving now.

What I can never understand is why the private sector dont just raid the premises who supply this stuff, take possession of the databases that contain all the viewers and then swoop on them. That is if its actually illegal, perhaps there is a grey area.
Or then again it might be legislature that inhibits this....for now, since there comes over the hill a monster called snoopers charter, and all the other countries derivatives. If you honestly think its solely to track pedos and terrorists and not actually to also protect enterprise then you need a word with yourself.

Problem is Dusty, all the companies operate outside of the UK in countries that are a minefield of legal loopholes. Atm, it may just be completely impossible to do anything about it. And it's like pirate bay, even if its shut down, they just move it and it all starts again. The people trying to shut it all down just end up going round in circles.

Strange how america see it differently. SOPA was defeated, but assange only a few weeks ago revealed how america are coming around again, and we all know its because enterprise are putting the squeeze on because profits arnt plump enough. I reckon once passed it will be a conveyor belt of souls getting dragged across the atlantic
