And then Corbyn started talking about how we need to help refugees, and I thought here we go again....

I probably won't agree with much he says but not only is he a man who thinks about things but if you read the full text of what he was saying rather than the skewed headlines Corbyn was making a very clear and consistent point about Bin Laden. I look forward to seeing what other intelligent suggestions and policies he comes up with.

Report DStyle September 12, 2015 7:00 PM BST
i think it's very easy to write corbyn off, but maybe you shouldn't be so hasty.

firstly we would do well to remember that if there were an apathy party and voting were compulsory, they would have won a majority at the last election; focus groups don't tend to attract people who don't vote, so there is a vast swathe of the electorate who may well vote for corbyn completely unaccounted for. in particular he may well be very attractive to young voters, particularly when the youth of this country are being absolutely royally f'd in a.

and the changing of voting demographics is something all parties will be forced to take note of.

then there's the fact that europe might not be an issue come the next election, the UKIP defectors may well return to labour.

i also feel his opposition will quite rightly go after IDS like a dog with a bone, and hopefully force cameron's hand.

and men of principle, whatever their principles, are far more attractive than the fungible career politician with maleable policies shaped by their spads, focus groups and think tanks, who think little further than how to win the next election.
Report Just Checking September 12, 2015 7:24 PM BST
If the UK leave the EU in 2017 UKIP will lose its main reason for existing.

If however the UK stays and if the migrant open door from Germany rumbles on, if anything I'd think UKIP will attract more votes, not less, and from "Labour" voters.

Spot on, DStyle.

Whatever you think of Corbyn and his policies/theories at least he's a man who truly believes in what he's preaching.

Such a refreshing change from the plasticised, career politicians who've become ever-present in the last 20+ years who count for absolutely bugger all, have the sincerity of Lord Haw-Haw and make you feel sick to the stomach every time they open their vacuous, useless, immoral, self-promoting/money-making concerning gobs.

With any luck, Corbyn's appointment just might make people take notice of what really matters in their lives/other peoples lives - and start rejecting the Thatcherite corruptness of 'me-me-me' brain-washing that has blighted this country for far too long.

Please expand SF.
The point I'm making is that his policies, and values, don't stand up to scrutiny irrespective of how sincere he comes across as or is.
Now I know that's just my opinion but it's an opinion many share.
I think he will go the same way as Galloway. Have his fanfare but the more people get to hear him and get to know his policies the less popular he will become.
