I'll start - Wheeler Dealers. Utter gash. The short, fat wide boy buys a knackered old motor and gives it to his impossibly tall mechanic to repair and sell on. Rinse and repeat every bloody time.

I have no idea at all why I watch it every time it comes on and I wouldn't know one end of a car from the other.

Finally managed to stop watching "Baggage Battles" on the Travel Channel when it became repeat after repeat.

Still keep an eye on the Antiques Road Trip though.

The best thing about wheeler dealers is the fact that they have this bloke, who you hardly ever see who they rope in to help with a particularly tricky bit of work. Like they keep him in that hole that workshops have. Probably feeding him scampi fries and castrol R.

That and Air Crash Investigations. Or the Australian one I can't remember the name of where they normally stop Indian people bringing spicy food into the country.

He was on last night Barry, helping Ed test the compression in the chambers of a 67 Bel Air.

It got a mention on "count Arthur strong" (is that 2 in 1?) where he described it as his favourite show: "little fat bloke buys a car and makes the tall one fix and they sell it for a small loss"

Rosemary and Thyme. Utterly dreadful, but I can't help but watch it.
Report Johnny_Mustang September 9, 2015 8:47 PM BST
That's what the fat guy always neglects to mention Barry. He'll happily say 'we bought the car for 6k and sold it for 6.2k making a £200 profit' but conveniently fails to add that poor Ed has been working like a Trojan for at least six months without pay and has had to sell his house before the repossession order kicks in.

P. S - there's a double bill tonight at 10:00 & 11:00.

Road Wars.  Pure drivel but compelling viewing.

The only other programme that I watch is UK Border Force (seen some episodes a good 20 times), but that's clearly not rubbish and so is ineligible for the thread.

Good job I persist with the Antiques Road Trip. A landmark day as one of the show's star Highwaymen buys a glass cake stand for £1 and sells it at auction for £360. Daylight robbery.

The greatest day in the show's history came though when another Highwayman bought a damaged Staffordshire china elephant clock for £8 and sold it at a Scottish auction room for a magnificent £2700.

Have to agree firmly with "Wheeler Dealers".

Always the same recipe. They want maximum profit but fit stainless steel exhaust systems, upsized brake systems and other unnecessary stuff.

The little Cockney gitt (is that one "t" or two)gets all excited and says they are in the money this time.
Total cost of restoration, with no charge for labour, £12.5k.

"We could easily get £18 grand" he says!

Then he advertises it for £16.5k and immediately shows weakness in his resolve of the price and encourages low offers.

First guy comes and pretends to be looking at it, and then says the most he can go to is £14.5k, and walks.

Second guy says how fantastic it is, and to be fair they often are, but he has three more to look at (seeing this one is pretty rare and outstanding,
where are the other three)?

So he takes a shine to the pretty young girl and lets her have it for £13,250.

Would anyone do that? Would they ****!! They would hold out for the price they want and **** off the people who can't afford it.

Ok, I know it's not real but I wouldn't mind dealing with him, in his own Sheffield dealership!

Sat up till 12:30 this morning watching how it's made (one and a half hours, back to back).

I now feel enriched with the knowledge of how "Pressure Cookers", Mechanical sing birds in a cage, stainless steel tanker bodies,
and whatever was on for the previous hour, which was clearly so enthralling that I can't remember!!!

Given the stellar write-ups on here, I'll certainly have to check out this 'Wheeler Dealers' programme now, as it appears to have grabbed the imagination and attention of the Chit Chat cognoscenti.

Could a kind person could direct me to the time and station it is broadcast?

And what about this here 'Gold Rush' ?   Is it the real deal?
Report Aunty Post September 10, 2015 2:29 PM BST
The current series is ancient. Probably has fifteen or so episodes that are well worn.

I didn't see it at all until a couple of years ago, when I got my new TV including "Freeview".

I'm sure I heard that a new series was to air, starting today but not sure when.

37 Quest and 38 Quest +1 have it on all through the day, and early evening, at staggered times.

On Sky Alun you can watch it on Demand or if you scroll along to the Documentaries tab you'll see it's on every bleeding night at 10:00pm and usually 11:00pm.

The absolute tragedy about this is that Mrs Mustang goes to bed and I'm convinced she thinks I'm downstairs watching porn.

Fat Boy is useless, but Ed seems a decent sort.
There are numerous similar `buy/fix/sell car programmes, but the only one that I watch is `Fast and Loud`. Far more entertainment value than `Wheeler Dealers`, the main man being the current holder of The Cannonball Run fastest-time record.
