@ blackestnight... yes, I also have two watches that don't need batteries, one of which is "kinetic" (I'll anticipate the response to that as "surely it's not that bad)!

I bought a fake (but really good quality) IWC watch (Titanium look Chrono with mineral crystal glass) in Patpong market from a trader I know well - the batteries last around 5 years ..incredible.
I'm just amazed how long the batteries last.
Keeps really good time too.

I've normally had watches with a back I can remove but I've now got one that'll need a tool :( I think it's because it's rated to a high water pressure or something, which I needed for my weekend job as elite warrior in the SBS (when the football season is off).

I've been stung before by getting a watch battery changed in a jeweler. Once they broke the damn thing then denied they had, the other time I didn't ask the cost first and I could've bought a new cheap watch for what he charged. So I'm going to get one of those opening tools myself.

You can get cardboard strips with loads of watch batteries from .. I think last place I got them was poundland? Dirt cheap and they seem to last as long as any other type.

I am familiar with that particular tool, but he's more of a spanner, I'm thinking I need of a sort of specific tool, one that isn't completely useless.

Apparently you can try pressing a stress ball on and twisting, it can work.

Or just go at it with a screwdriver and hammer, but it's a nice watch and I don't want to damage it.

I've a Longines which is over 40 years old. Was m late fathers and cost him £220 in 1970.
Wind up obviously and I need to put it in for cleaning and adjusting every few years now. Costs a fortune.

No my friend, I tried all the rubbish advice from tw@ts who just like the sound of their own postings!

One was trying to say that "Blue-Tac" was the way to go, but it was obvious that the back was already loose!

I've stopped buying battery watches. Bought a  wind-up  skeleton watch a couple of years ago, very relaxing to look at  cogs going round.

I'm bad for treating watches like Alias treats his liver.
So even if I'd an expensive one I'd always wear a cheap one for normal use.

I was looking at the really expensive ones in an airport shop, who pays £1000s or even £10,000s just for a watch when you can get a £20 one from Argos that does the exact same job?

Yes aunty I hate the hassle of getting deliveries so I'll order when I order a few things at Christmas or something, it's a handy thing to have, the battery should last beyond then. But you could order 5 things from amazon, tick the "Bundle my delivery" box and 5 different deliveries come anyway, from different couriers

I do have a wierd set of caliper screwdrivers, maybe they might work anyway.

£20 and you got it for £3 AP. Good deal.

Bought a  wind-up  skeleton watch a couple of years ago, very relaxing to look at  cogs going round.

That kind of reminds me of visiting elderly relatives, in their dull and dark  houses, and listening to the clocks counting down the
seconds, with a few jolly chimes every quarter, to their final demise!

I looked at skeleton watches, they go from nice enough looking cheap chinese ones to lovely looking exotic ones. I could understand spending a lump on an exotic skeleton more than a rolex, even the expensive rolexes don't look much different to a 30 quid one imho.

Doesnt solve hassle of going to get it fixed, but some places do lifetime batteries. £20 you get a card and then dont have to pay ever again.

Very possible but i think theyre quietly confident i'll forget or lose the card before that happens anyway

I had look, that's a cheap one. They make watches that cost well over £200,000

And they look s*t imho! If they said "wu fung watch co, hong kong" on the back and cost £20 I wouldn't even know the difference.

I'd rather have the one I have to wear, imho it looks better and is accurate, all I need.
