Techno thicket here.
Does anyone know if I can "hard-wire" the BT Home Hub 4 direct to a desktop PC or does it only work via a wireless connection.
Old PC running Windows XP.
Current set up is Cable from phone socket to router to PC. Works fine and is stable but want to change to BT to take advantage of an offer for Sports package (on Sky Platform).

Thanks in advance.

back of hub has sockets to connect ethernet cable to pc/lap top.

Just need a cable (grey) don't know if BT supply it or you'll need to get one from pc world or wherever.

Should be an "ethernet" cable in the box that the hub came in (at least mine had one).

Cheers mememe/Aunty. That would solve the issue lovely however I've just noticed this ancient desktop doesn't have an ethernet connection.Cry

What hole in the pc are you using at the moment?

Gnarley,
I'm no tecchie but are you sure that you've got no ethernet port (that's what tecchies call them - the little hole where your cable connects in).

If you've got a USB port (your computer can't be really ancient) then surely there's an ethernet port.

What's your comp ... is it a tower thing because the ports are hidden away in the back of the box?

ok don't think that works with the bt hub.  I think you can get a wireless adapter that fits into the usb slot, so that might be worth looking at.

Thanks mememe. It's a tower and the port on the back is an RJ11 where the old dial-up cable used to go. Well so I thought but it does have an ethernet symbol above it. I shall buy a cable and find out.
Failing that, dave's suggestion of a wireless adapter seems the best alternative.
Many thanks both.
