I have a lot of houseguests at the moment.
Big hairy long legged ones.

Trying to desensitive myself from the flippin' shock of them appearing.

And treat them kind.

Any visitors at yours?

An eight legged friend! He'll never let you down.
Report kenny mann September 7, 2015 10:34 PM BST
Pebbles gobbles most of the visitors up. She can even catch bluebottles. I do try and save the spiders of course.
Report parachute September 7, 2015 10:36 PM BST
Wild spiders couldn't drag me away

But they may not need to.
Report Foinavon September 7, 2015 10:58 PM BST
In the last 24 hours I rescued one from the bath and one from the sink in the same bathroom. It could have been the same one being stupid twice of course.
Report parachute September 7, 2015 11:03 PM BST
You did a good thing Foinavon.

Do you make housecalls?
Report Just Checking September 7, 2015 11:09 PM BST
I like spiders. There's a time of year (might be autumn) when you get a lot of the big ones wandering about, it's males on the pull, trying to find a female to make the beast with 16 legs.

I noticed a fairly big one on my wall behind the sofa yesteday, now I think about it.

I like them too. They are lovely. I just get freaked out when I see them.

I recorded a programme about them  - which I eventually plucked up the courage to watch - and felt a lot happier to be among them. They are in the bath to get a drink of water.
Knowledge, understanding, friendship.

They just keep turning up and making me jump.

you should be used to jumping ffs

But amusement aside, there are a lot of big spiders around.
I like them, but not in my line of vision.

Hi Kenny - apologies for missing this the first time, but is Pebbles your cat ?
Well done for saving the spiders mate.

I've always admired spiders, parachute but not thinking of starting a rescue service, Laugh

Spiders are the SAS of the animal kingdom.
Report kenny mann September 8, 2015 12:31 AM BST
Well it's not my pet crocodile, parachute.

Here she is, the lovely Pebbles.

Give her a break, Kenny!  Who wants to eat their dinner next to your smelly old trainer?
Report kenny mann September 8, 2015 12:40 AM BST
Arenh't you impressed I use trainers at my age?Grin
Report kenny mann September 8, 2015 12:42 AM BST
That's an oldish photo when she was sort of a stray taken near the door when I was trying to entice her in,hence the location of the food.
Report Pokermonster September 8, 2015 12:43 AM BST
That depends, sir.  What do you use them for?
Report kenny mann September 8, 2015 12:55 AM BST
A brisk walk 3 times a week. Used to jog but the knees are a tad painful these days.
Report Pokermonster September 8, 2015 12:58 AM BST
Very impressive, sir.  I'm forty-six and, although walking the dog four times a day, can no longer run at all.  Sad
Report Pokermonster September 8, 2015 1:00 AM BST
Knees here as well.  I buggered mine up lifting weights as a youth.
Report kenny mann September 8, 2015 1:13 AM BST
I was still playing 5 a side at 46, that's what I miss the most.
Report Pokermonster September 8, 2015 1:21 AM BST
Have you tried walking football, Kenny?  It's quite popular around here, a friend plays and he's seventy-six!
Report kenny mann September 8, 2015 1:24 AM BST
I've thoght about it since I first heard of it 2-3 years ago, Poker', and the recent TV ads have rekindled my interest.
Report YOMOMMA September 8, 2015 10:45 AM BST
I hate big spiders. Keep getting them in my house when its hot.

Not seen a single spider even
since starting this thread

They must read the forum and respect my fears.

Most likely explanation.
Report Pokermonster September 11, 2015 12:51 AM BST
Perhaps they've all been scared off by a really big one?
Report Pokermonster September 11, 2015 12:53 AM BST
Joking aside, conkers are the answer to your prayers, sir.  Spiders don't like conkers, if you place a few bowls around the house they stay away.
Report parachute September 11, 2015 1:01 AM BST
truly Poker? I've seen some chestnut spray advertised.

Normal horse-chestnut conkers?
Report Pokermonster September 11, 2015 1:04 AM BST
Yes, sir, just a normal brown conker.
Report bodil September 11, 2015 1:04 AM BST
All big spiders are female.  Males always small.  Have to come up with interesting mating strategies to avoid being eaten. I think God may be a female spider - you've seen them on the horror movies.  Imagine, when you're in Limbo, I'll be sucking the dissolved contents of a giant fly prior to mating with some monstrous tarantula who will eat me alive.  Religiously-speaking, makes Islam seem half-reasonable.
Report parachute September 11, 2015 1:15 AM BST
Bodil - are you ok mate?
Report parachute September 11, 2015 1:21 AM BST
My way of avoiding the fear has been thinking of the St Leger exacta, eight hairy legs.
Report bodil September 11, 2015 1:27 AM BST
I'm fine para - just speculating if God was a female spider.  Statistically less likely than him being a white male man?  I think not.
Report parachute September 11, 2015 1:34 AM BST
Interesting thought bodil.
Pretty sure God could take any form.
