An eight legged friend! He'll never let you down.

Pebbles gobbles most of the visitors up. She can even catch bluebottles. I do try and save the spiders of course.

But they may not need to.

In the last 24 hours I rescued one from the bath and one from the sink in the same bathroom. It could have been the same one being stupid twice of course.

I like spiders. There's a time of year (might be autumn) when you get a lot of the big ones wandering about, it's males on the pull, trying to find a female to make the beast with 16 legs.

I noticed a fairly big one on my wall behind the sofa yesteday, now I think about it.

I like them too. They are lovely. I just get freaked out when I see them.

I recorded a programme about them  - which I eventually plucked up the courage to watch - and felt a lot happier to be among them. They are in the bath to get a drink of water.

They just keep turning up and making me jump.

That's an oldish photo when she was sort of a stray taken near the door when I was trying to entice her in,hence the location of the food.

A brisk walk 3 times a week. Used to jog but the knees are a tad painful these days.

Very impressive, sir.  I'm forty-six and, although walking the dog four times a day, can no longer run at all. 

Knees here as well.  I buggered mine up lifting weights as a youth.

I was still playing 5 a side at 46, that's what I miss the most.

Have you tried walking football, Kenny?  It's quite popular around here, a friend plays and he's seventy-six!

I've thoght about it since I first heard of it 2-3 years ago, Poker', and the recent TV ads have rekindled my interest.

Joking aside, conkers are the answer to your prayers, sir.  Spiders don't like conkers, if you place a few bowls around the house they stay away.

Yes, sir, just a normal brown conker.

All big spiders are female.  Males always small.  Have to come up with interesting mating strategies to avoid being eaten. I think God may be a female spider - you've seen them on the horror movies.  Imagine, when you're in Limbo, I'll be sucking the dissolved contents of a giant fly prior to mating with some monstrous tarantula who will eat me alive.  Religiously-speaking, makes Islam seem half-reasonable.

My way of avoiding the fear has been thinking of the St Leger exacta, eight hairy legs.

I'm fine para - just speculating if God was a female spider.  Statistically less likely than him being a white male man?  I think not.
