you need to place them on a radiator if they're AA batteries

Thank God for another decent outcome!
It must have been a very anxious time for you.....(have you still got the receipt)? |

Yes, AP. While you were getting all stressed about your grandson thing (glad that turned out OK btw; what a relief), little did you know that I was wrestling with a far more serious issue.
Seriously, have you ever known batteries to suddenly go dead in a remote control, rather than said device slowly getting harder and harder to use and the batteries needing more and more wriggling about? For a minute or two, I thought my remote control was actually broken. |

Seriously the answer is yes. Things either work or don't work! There isn't always a transition where they"slightly work" and then don't. The last previous time may have just summoned the power, for one more use, and then....KAPUT! |

Well, if it's happened to you then I'll stop worrying and assume that aliens didn't use my remote control. Panic over.

That reminds of a time when we used a company van for work, we told the gaffer that the tax had just ran out and he replied "What, all of it?".

Nope. Actually, everyone should know as a potential survival tip that you can get an extra spurt of battery life out of warming them up. You can normally make one very quick call from your mobile after the battery's "died", for example.
