ps will be sad to see Daniel Craig leave his post best Bond since Connery for me,perhaps even the best bond ever.

Will never better Sean Connery so not bothered who plays him now.

SAYS : Great idea! He'd make the PERFECT James Bond!
(THINKS INSIDE HEAD : Better say what they want to hear ON THIS QUASI-MAOIST LITMUS TEST...don't want to become an unemployable pariah! ) |

Not that his Bond is happy. "He's very f****** lonely. There's a great sadness. He's f****** these beautiful woman but then they leave and it's... sad. And as a man gets older it's not a good look. It might be a nice fantasy - that's debatable - but the reality, after a couple of months...".
As for whether he'll be back for more James Bond after Spectre? "At this moment, no. I have a life and I've got to get on with it a bit. But we'll see". I always thought Brosnan was a good Bond and left 1 Bond too early. |

Does anybody else think Lois Maxwell would have made a great Othello?

What year will it be before we have a muslim James Bond? Turban on the lot. From Baghdad with love....
|

May as well be Lenny Henry. He's on everything else.

Thought bond was meant to be British?
|
|
By:
Don't think Bond should be black, imagine Brad Pitt playing Shaft !
Best Bond ever Jock Bond Connery, he was just perfect for the part. |
|
By:
A black Bond would be totally ridiculous. Ian Fleming would turn in his grave (and he lived in Jamaica).
It's political correctness gone mad! |
|
By:
Don`t think Bond should be British anymore, too ridiculous to be believed...possibly French.
|
|
By:
In the interest of equality and being a fully fledged guardian reader, I would suggest a black lesbian for the next lead. Don't any of you racist bigots take the mickey either.
|
|
By:
Don't really see why it would be ridiculous, it's not like the same white actor has played him for over 50 years, there's been 6 completely different people already so what does it matter if the skin colour changes with it? we've already had a blonde bond from the traditional dark coloured hair, could be a refreshing change, but the producers are unlikely to do it mostly because they'll be thinking about their pocket with the assumption it wouldn't appeal to the white masses of the Western world.
|
|
By:
nothing wrong with the idea, nobody believes that type of British character exists anymore.
|
|
By:
It is very dated, it's a character from the 50's that needs to evolve over time, if he was truly British today, he wouldn't risk sleeping with as many women as he does, he'd be too worried about the Child Support Agency knocking on his door 9 months later

I'm not a Bond fan but I'd watch it if Idris Elba got the role.
I've been a fan of his since The Wire. |
|
By:
No objections at all about a black Bond but the crucial thing is the actor being right for the part. If it's a case of shoe horning someone in for the sake of some misguided agenda then its a stupid idea. Idris Elba is a damned fine actor and his portrayal of Luther is one of my favourites. Is he right for Bond? Not sure but then everybody has jumped on the blonde midget's bandwagon and whilst he can act a bit I don't rate him as Bond. So who knows?

Has anybody thrown Dawn French's hat in the ring yet?
|

The hat may get the job, Dawn French has no chance though.

That's just sexist. And fattist.

chinese james bond

By:
so long as he "whites-up" i don't have a problem.
lest we forget that two of the greatest actors ever, namely Laurence Olivier and Orson Welles, had the decency to respect the writer, by blackening up to play Othello. |
|
By:
Not sure it was what the author intended, but we have black Hamlets and white Othellos (took 200+ years for Othello to be played by a black man ffs), so why not. He's a bl oody good actor.

of course i'm being facetious bb.
it matters not one jot, and i agree that he's a very good actor. but much in the same way I always viewed Timothy Dalton as that Robin Hood Tree planet douchebag in Flash Gordon, Idris Elba will always be Stringer Bell for me. |
|
By:
Of course DS!, I was having fun, as were you

Elba would be a fantastic Bond, but yeah you'd always be thinking the wire when you see him. Not sure why anyone would care about Bond being black or white. Historical figures are another matter.

Historical figures are another matter. i'm not so sure Hank. I sort of knew it was Daniel Day Lewis pretending to be Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln, if you get my point. We're asked to suspend a whole range of our critical faculties when we enjoy any sort of drama, and we manage to do it pretty easily. If Grace Jones had done as good as job with the character as Day Lewis, I don't think i'd have enjoyed it any less. |

By:
I think kenny lynch would make a better James Bond, then he can leave his previous employment as Jimmy tar bucks mate
|
|
By:
What a great shout. Claire Balding is in everything else. May as well be Bond.

By:
A black bond, a white shaft and a transvestite Lara Croft
next you'll want a Bourne again christian |
|
By:
Dale Winton blacked up
everybody happy then |
|
By:
Time we had a cartoon James Bond. I suggest Brian Griffin.
|
|
By:
I can't believe this. If there's one place I felt sure that people would agree that a black James Bond is absurd, it was Chit Chat. If even you lot can't see that it's totally wrong, most of the UK probably agrees, and Elba (who is, indeed, a great actor), probably will be the next Bond. Ffs.
It's political correctness gone mad! |
|
By:
What so wrong about it?
|
|
By:
Well, it would be totally different from Fleming's Bond, like how Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes was totally different from Arthur Conan Doyle's, and therefore bollocks.
Idris Elba could play a great secret agent, but not Bond. |
