Reports are emerging this morning that banks may in the future check if your Facebook friends have a good credit rating before approving you a loan.

The social media site has apparently patented a new technology that would allow banks to check whether both your and your friend's credit histories, the Metro report.

According to a patent seen by internet news site Daily Dot if your group of friends 'failed' the credit check, so would you.

The patent says, 'When an individual applies for a loan, the lender examines the credit ratings of members of the individual's social network who are connected to the individual through authorized nodes. If the average credit rating of these members is at least a minimum credit score, the lender continues to process the loan application. Otherwise, the loan application is rejected.'
