I don't watch a lot of American TV series, but 'DAMAGES' was first-class. Glenn Close led a very good cast, with excellent plot lines and characters. The fundamentals of drama. There were 5 series in all, which can be bought on DVD or elsewhere.

Gomorrah was amazing, anyone not seen should def have it top of the list of things to watch.
series 2 should be finished filming next month, and aired early next year on Sky Atlantic at the same time as sky Italia and other sky platforms.
A 3rd series is also planned.

Dexter excellent, especially first 2-3 series which were incredibly good.
Friday Night Lights my other choice - set against the backdrop of college American Football, maintained quality throughout 5 series.

PUBLIC EYE starring Alfred Burke...I'd put this up there with The Sopranos, Mad Men, The Wire...as an examination of human nature and corruption...6 gns. a day plus expenses...better than Beckett IMO...

Recently watched Sons of Anarchy, Justified all the way through and am now on Series 2 of West Wing. Though the first two arent great, they did just enough to keep me interested

The first series of Les Revenants was filmed at least 3 years ago , when they can be bothered to complete series 2 , the young lad in the programme will be at univeristy by now.

Surprised no mention for Game of Thrones? , thought i'd hate it but after a reluctant start grew to love it.
Also Better Call Saul , far superior to Breaking Bad
1st Series of Gotham was good fun too

I quite liked Series 1 of 'Braquo' but Series 2 reached a level of silliness that finally made me say 'au revoir' to it.
Funnily enough, the actor who plays roughy-toughy Eddy was one of the passengers on the train in Paris recently targeted by that gunman who supposedly found his bag of guns in a Brussels park. You would have thought that Eddy would have taken out the gunman single-handed. He did however reportedly "injure his hand" trying to activate the train's alarm system. To date I am not aware that Eddy has been given the Legion d'Honneur for such heroism, but fingers crossed it is in la poste so to speak.

I have been working my way through "Oz" - made by HBO in the late 90's:

Would recommend it. It has loads of (then unknown) American actors in it.

Little aside: I was looking to buy a specific old CD the other day and noticed that there was a box set of a number of that bands early stuff for not much more, a real bargain. I had a look and that suddenly seems common for many older bands, it's pretty much a normal CD size but with 5 CDs jammed inside it.
If you are looking at some bands earlier stuff, keep an eye out for them.

Just a quick heads-up - the series "Oz" that I mention above is being re-run again on CBS Action.
It starts next Tuesday (20th) at 1.55am - clearly this info is no good unless you have a Tivo/Sky+ (or you are an insomniac).
I would definitely recommend it.

If you got rid of the good comedic writing and took the production budget and quality of actors down a peg or two, it would be glaringly sh1t and achingly protracted.
And as a general point, if one of your defining and novel features is that you're prepared to kill off major characters, it's probably best not to cast Sean Bean, the walking spoiler, as one of the central characters in Series 1.
Fargo's worth a watch.
