Utterly radiant. She should be made to contest every women's event in the World Championships and never leave the tv.

A sensational race .....and I think we can agree that Ms Scippers is the real world record holder.
Report FredRescue August 28, 2015 10:21 PM BST
Schippers had a far faster track than sprinters in the 1980's would be equivalent to doped to the eyeballs

Not so pretty up close,  her spots are almost as bad as that Irish swimmer who won 3 golds in 1996.

Great kid

Nice to see a resurgence in European athletics, spearheaded by Schiffers.

Tricky stuff.  Do the Dutch dope historically?  Jamaicans and Kenyans pretty rife due to third world procedures/desperation/corruption.  Who are top of the medal table?  A Kenyan wins the mens' javelin?  A drug-induced dream surely?
Report bodil August 29, 2015 12:10 AM BST
OK let me clarify. She looks like she could do it naturally.  Just surprised someone who was 3rd in the heptathalon 4 years ago (?) could do what she's done in the 100 and 200m.  Maybe I underrated the heptathalon.  Before this thread I had no suspicion.
Report jed.davison August 29, 2015 12:15 AM BST
You would think it would improve her sprinting quite a bit if she no longer spent most of her training time throwing a javelin, putting the shot, practising her hitch-kick or her Fosbury flop, and most importantly trying to stretch her stamina to run 800m after doing six other events.

And of course there is her age to consider - she's what, 23? No wonder she has improved significantly in the last four years.
Report mafeking August 29, 2015 12:16 AM BST
know she was only a kid but i watched her record the same time as jess ennis in the 200m at the olympic stadium in 2012

inconceivable that she would be running more than a second quicker 3 years later and beating times that should have been struck off the books decades ago
Report jed.davison August 29, 2015 12:21 AM BST
Athletics history says it is anything but inconceivable.

She used to compete in seven events, now she competes in one.

If Ennis had decided four years agoto concentrate on the 100m hurdles, how would she be doing in that event now? Of course we can't say for sure, but we do know that her PB at the event is faster than the girl ran to win the Gold Medal in it today.
Report bodil August 29, 2015 12:25 AM BST
On balance, I think she's straight.

Unless she has an East German parent.
Report rob_dylan August 29, 2015 12:31 AM BST
Jess Ennis beat her in the 200m in 2012.
Report rob_dylan August 29, 2015 12:33 AM BST
Oh missed mafeking's post.  Yes, same time.
Report mafeking August 29, 2015 12:36 AM BST
dukey, i bow to your superior knowledge on athletics. inconceivable was perhaps the wrong word. staggering maybe closer to the mark

usual form is for people to become multi eventers cos they're not quite world class enough in any particular event but it's not unknown for heptathletes to win global titles in other events
Report scandanavian_haven August 29, 2015 12:42 AM BST
She's always been quick broke national junior records Holland over various sprint distances, it's unsurprising when you give up training for seven different events and let your body focus and specilise in one discipline, you are going to improve with the specific training and dedication.

Elaine Thomas who is the same age born 2 weeks apart, improved over the 200m by 1.57 in the last 12 months 12 months, he finished second.

Re: the improvement in Dafne, at the risk of making her sound like a horse she is only young, is a big scopey sort who you could easily see growing into her frame and upping her game. When you are that tall and athletically built I'd guess that you have the tools to really get quicker with some technical changes.

And despite the spots I still think she's a dream to watch in action.
Report jed.davison August 29, 2015 12:47 AM BST
Of course, as a girl she may not have been outstanding for her age in a single discipline.

One should also bear in mind that historically there is quite a strong multi-eventing ethos in Dutch Athletics so it wouldn't be unusual for a young Dutch girl to give the heptathlon a go.

And Jackie Joyner is a good example of your last point, still holds the long jump world record, well she shares it with Galina Chystiakova - don't think anyone will get close to that for a while, although if the girl who won today could find a bit more height she may do, she had incredible runway speed.

Of course she's on phucking JUICE she's phucking WHITE, I would have thought that would have been the giveaway FFS
