While I was out this morning, the police called (not all of them, just one of them) and questioned my wife.  Apparently somebody has stolen the alloy wheels from the car on the drive at number 8 - around 1.00a.m. last night.  Did she see anything suspicious sort of thing.
Anyway, it got me thinking.  The crime was committed at number 8, which is further down the street from where we live.  I understand a doctor lives down that end of the street (yes, a real doctor, fully qualified apparently). I suppose that's why the police were making door to door enquiries.
So, given my civic responsibilities I thought I would ask the wise forumites 2 questions ...

1. who do you think would do such a thing, and why; and

2. where were you about 1.00 a.m. this morning (purely to eliminate you from our enquiries)

I know it wasn't Dave next door because he's away on holiday.

My guess, and it's pure speculation at this point, is that it's somebody driving round in a car with new alloy wheels.

TIA

Have you started this thread to deflect existing Police attention from yourself?

We'll DEFINITELY know it's you if you hold a tearful Press Conference seeking help for the return of the items.

I think you should forget beating around the bush ask your wife, straight out, where she was at 01:00am this morning. Mischief

I challenged her and she said that she pleaded the fifth.  I asked specifically about her beating around the bush, as you suggested, and she just blushed.  So given the fact she's admitted to having the fifth wheel and she blushed (a clear sign of something, although she didn't touch her face or scratch her nose) I think we're making some progress.

I think you've been watching too much Police 5, but I think I'll lawyer up just in case they find the fifth wheel, and try to fit me up.

Check you computer's web history.

If, amongst your list of porn and gambling sites, there are any entries for ikea, john lewis or harvey jones you will know she has been getting up in the dead of night surfing the darkest parts of the web for fitted kitchens.

If so, be worried... Mischief
