I won't go into a long winded story but been having dental work done over the course of the last 2 years in this country and I'm now on dentist number 4 , crowns, fillings etc. Never been happy with the standard of work, never had an xray in all that time, 1 dentist did 2 fillings that fell out 1 hour after leaving the surgery another broke my tooth while doing a filling and told me "You'll have to have a crown, I don't feel like pulling teeth today" cost of £250 which then I find out was fitted wrongly and to big. Anyway broke a tooth in Spain recently so went to their local dentist, no waiting around, xray as soon as I sat in the chair, she then rubbed a cream on my gums, gave me an injection which I never felt and 40 minutes later I was finished, she took the time to explain everything to me and what work I needed doing and told me the fillings I had done previously were causing an infection and were of poor quality and needed to be removed along with the 2 teeth and as soon as I get back home to contact my dentist and have the teeth removed (she didn't want to do it while I was on holiday). Total cost of that visit including xrays and filling plus 3 bottles of antiseptic mouthwash £53. I left the dentist and didn't feel any numbness from the injections, in fact could eat/drink straightaway. Got home, booked an appointment, got seen after 3 weeks by my dentist, no xrays again, told him what happened and what she said, he then preceded to remove his filling leaving it exposed telling me he would refill it on my next visit, total cost £78, 2 hours of numbness, no xray and toothache. Welcome to rip off Britain.

Difference between the 2 countries was unbelievable, not just the cost, technology was better, of course you get xrays, how do they know if there is any infection otherwise, that's the problem in this country,it's all about money and **** the patient, fact is my dentist had filled over an infection, had he bothered to take an xray first he would of know that.

I've had crowns, veneers, fillings and even implants in the UK, and its expensive, but always had a great job done - Hungary and the Far East are two places where you can allegedly get similar standard treatment as significantly lower cost - if you're happy with the risks, then fill your boots, its what market economies are all about
