All this talk about burial/cremation, and not to mention a certain ceremony today, has left me somewhat depressed, and wondering what sort of turnout  there might be!

We had circa eighty family, friends, and work colleagues to celebrate the life of my wife.

Frankly I will be surprised if i have twenty!

My fault, as we moved around too much, and I became something of a recluse because of my deafness!

Always awkward in company (even family) as haven't a clue what's going on, and afraid to interject at the wrong time.
So much so that I balk at the chance for an evening out, as I just feel stupid and isolated.

I know that one good person on here will relate to what I'm saying. That being SFBTW!

Underneath all of that I am not unhappy, because being on here is excitingly productive, and it's good to be able to be generous to "the kids"!

Guess I'm just selfish, I'm afraid....Sad

I think the question should be if you died today, as circumstances, friends, relations, neighbours acqaintancies etc can change so much over the years. I've thought about this more than once, currently around 30 I reckon.

I'll come to yours if you'll come to mine ... but you first (it's not that I don't trust you, it's, well, it's because I was brought up properly - I'm painfully polite and I'd really like you to go first).

Admire your honesty Aunty.

As you get older, the circle of friends becomes smaller where all you're left with is your true friends, as true friends keep in touch, the one's that didn't matter wont, so it's not about numbers, it's about the quality of people that are there, would much rather the exact people I want at mine rather than a lorry load of people I don't, which is why it's always best to die in old age as you're more likely to be surrounded by only those that matter.

I doubt if there would be double figures at mine.
I have no family left other than wife and 2 daughters.

I do not keep friends I have relationships with people and move on.
In some ways I wish I were different but as I type this today I am a very happy person so perhaps it is what has worked well for me.

Interesting point by the OP though and has made me think...........

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

When you're dead, you're dead.

I can commiserate with the deafness issue Aunty Post. Hearing aids are fine when there's not too much background noise but don't like wearing them all the time. It is awkward when you don't catch all the words and feels impolite to keep asking people to repeat themselves. It's true, you become isolated in company and people are not as sympathetic as they would be with a partially sighted person.

Depends what racing's on.

I'd make the spread 0.5-1.5 as things stand.

(All bets voided if nobody can be found actually to organize a funeral; the deposit of a binliner in the River Tone by the people next door does not constitute a formal arrangement according to the terms of this market.)

Good to see that I'm not alone in this....btw, thinking back, twenty was somewhat ambitious.

If I include the vicar (or whoever does the speaking) & the funeral directors, that will account for another six, or so!

Not something I worry about. Funerals waste of time imo I'd rather people just see me on fire in the garden rather than spunks £5k on a boring day out to bury me in a nice box

I think there must be an Excel formula for this.
About 300 at age 1, reducing by 3 a year until you have 3 attending at age 100.
