To my understanding I think the second nun is mishearing the first nun as saying "Wears the soap" as in wearing it down....ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

But how can you mishear a question, as if it was portrayed as a statement?

the joke centres around the homophones "where's" and "wears" and the assumption that the nuns are using the soap as a masturbatory aid.

Dstyle - "the joke centres around the homophones "where's" and "wears" and the assumption that the nuns are using the soap as a masturbatory aid".

The first part of your assessment is undoubtedly correct, but it is clear only that the second (or replying nun) is aware of the soaps potential as a masturbatory aid. The first nun (despite her bathing proximity) may be innocent of such use and simply posing a genuine question. Taking the "joke" as written, it would be presumptuous to impugn the reputation of nun one simply on the evidence of the reply by nun two. hth.

I read that "joke" in Bradford Rag Mag, probably about 1966.In fact I told it regularly for a few years but it always went down like a lead balloon.

Cr@p joke, but probably works better when spoken, as your brain isn't stuck on "Where's".

Anyway I don't give a stuff, as I'm still reeling from the worst loss for many years!

Oh dear AP, sorry to hear that.

Get that speedboat back off your grand-son and sell it.

Thanks kenny... if only it was worth more than a fiver!

We sailed it for the first time in a lake, with wind and waves, and it got stuck in the reeds!

Second time (without me) it ran out of power, and because my super intelligent, but dozy son, thought the instructions were too simple for him,
they were lucky to retrieve it!!!

Once you realise a brand of soap is called "Lux",
And a "Blue Nun " is a bottle of wine --
The joke naturally falls into place.
