tbf this is standard procedure when they think someone looks dodgy and is trying to pay by cheque.

Lol my last one was 36 and thought that would be it, its a great confidence booster though as life does not begin at 40!

happens when you are trying to get a deal meant for over 60s.  They look at the customer and if they think they're borderline, they ask for proof of age, as they might be only 58 or 59.

I got two of those 15 can packs of Fosters for £18 in Sainsburys on Saturday, 60p a can. No wonder pubs are going down the kermit.
