An investigation into whether the natural hormone kisspeptin can help restore periods
Research area: Reproductive health
Brief description: This study is investigating whether administration of the naturally occurring hormone kisspeptin can help to restore normal levels of reproductive hormones in female volunteers who have stopped having periods.
Participant information: We require healthy female volunteers aged 18-35 who have not had their period for 4 months, and who are not on any contraceptive medicine. Volunteers will be screened for their suitability and if eligible will be asked to attend so that they can be given the natural hormonal treatment, kisspeptin. Expenses up to £150 per day will be paid.
Where does it take place:The department of investigative medicine at Hammersmith Hospital

Do gut hormones mediate the beneficial effects of Roux-en-Y surgery?
Research area: Obesity
Brief description: We are investigating the effect of natural hormones that reduce appetite and influence the way the body handles sugar. We are also looking at the effect of low calorie diets.  The Study involves up to 9 visits.  Expenses of up to £100 per day will be paid.
Participant information: Healthy overweight volunteers, non smoker, age 18-55

We are currently recruiting for…

14-019, £2,450 - Healthy men needed for the study of a potential new treatment for C difficile (a type of bacterial infection). You must be 18 to 45 years old, and a non-smoker or a light smoker. It involves 14 days and nights residence in our unit, and 1 outpatient visit. Starts 31st of August.



11-023, £50 per donation - Healthy males and females needed for a blood donation study. 18-65 years old, smokers or non-smokers. Involves 1 screening visit and 4 donations per year. Each visit lasts approximately an hour and half.



14-017, £3,000- People with mild asthma needed for the study of a potential new treatment for some types of asthma. If you're a woman you must be postmenopausal for at least 1 year or have had a hysterectomy. 18-50 years old and a non-smoker for at least 1 year. It involves a screening visit, 14 days and nights residence in our unit and 1 outpatient visit. Starts 17th of August.

I know someone who done 3 or 4 of these when he was a hard-up student.  Only allowed to do one a year apparently, 4-figure sum for each one, a way to make some quick money but I would never have done it.  When you go in for a residence one they take your phone and most of your things away from you, not allowed to take any pics or anything in there.
