Haven't seen the UK one, but did see bits of US.....enough to see how ridiculous it is, at least!
On one episode they cracked off the lock, and there was a camera already in there, and with the lights on, facing out to the assorted low life "bidders"..... |

Apparently chumleee is the highest paid on Pawn Stars which is another scripted show. The main stars don't even work in the shop anymore. They only come in to film each episode and the store is closed off to ordinary customers.
