If you were sending a soldier overseas to fight in a war. You might think it a good idea to train him and equip him.

Well... we are in competition with every country economically. we have 70 million soldiers to fight the rest of the world our weapons are technology, literacy and numeracy. By limiting our budget spend we might not produce the entrepreneurs of the future. The New inventors. The new products to sell overseas.

Otto von Bismarck started the first prototype NHS in 1889 because he realized he should have fit troops. He built an infrastructure to enhance every German citizen. He didn't hamper those citizens with penury. The country cannot advance if it limits its people and their ambitions.

Spend a million on a missile to kill four guys on a truck in the desert or spend it on 10,000 grants. Sanity?

Long live Zapata Crazy

If we are sensible there is no need to be in competition with every country economically. Heres a thought, why not limit population growth in the UK, indeed reduce our population to a few million less and become self sufficient within our own borders...producing and manufacturing the basics and as good fortune may have it coming up with the odd new invention.

The limit immigration line plays well on the doorsteps, but not with the paymasters who want cheap labour, the threat of unemployment to keep people in line and maintain the property bubble at all costs. In short, talk tough on immigration to keep voters happy and do absolutely fck all in reality.

Perhaps there should be a sliding scale of charges. A 10k grant if
you take a useful degree like maths, science , engineering or medicine ,
up to a 10k per year charge if you want to doss
and do media studies .
And as TV presenters earn a fortune they can pay this off easily .
