Please read the book. It's one of the best books I've ever read. The film doesn't do the book justice.

I tackled the book twice, first time I gave up after 2 chapters. Stick with it, it's up there with the best. I'd give it 10/10 btw, book only please don't watch the film until reading the book.

I've just googled the book, and as much as I enjoy reading, I don't think I could get into this.

Serious Kenbo, the book gets going after a few chapter, maybe too slow to start but there is a good twist. It's probably the best fiction/ novel I've read.

This film doesn't do it justice.

I'm going away in October, I might take the plunge on your say so and stick it on the kindle.

Definitely Kenbo but please stick with it. It's a very slow start and not something that's required for but the story developes well and at the end you'll go WOW. The book won a lot of rewards BTW.

I have just purchased the book ovalman, i have to say any book with relegion/spiritual crap is something i would never usually read.

IMDB Review : 10/10

Saw this the other night at the NYFF. Wow. It's an incredible film, a true cinematic achievement, possibly a classic and maybe will be the first 3D movie to break through and win the Best Picture Oscar. Some of the images were so beautiful that the audience gasped at many of them. I felt transported and like I was seeing a movie for the very first time. I haven't felt that sort of magic in a movie theater in a long, long time.

I read the book and liked it and the film may even improve upon it which is kind of a miracle considering it's kids, animals and water just about all the time. The spiritual themes are simple and deep and raise more questions about faith and belief than answer anything. No preaching going on here and there could be. Without giving anything away, it's a wonderful story about storytelling and how telling our stories can get us through the most horrible life experiences and to help deal with the aftermath of them.

It's an incredible film experience. Go see it!

I'm with you on the spiritual/religion crap IS, I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the book.

I'm an Atheist as you maybe know. You won't regret it but satick with it, it's very slow start but a great finish. I'm watching the film, not a patch on the book.

The one thing i will say is that Amazon are going down hill rapidly, too busy trying to sell other parts of their business and then charging you a stupid amount for delivery. They are very much where Play.com were 5 years ago.

Amazon are going to self implode if they carry on with their bull$hit. I clicked on a book earlier and when i got to proceed, i was buying a digital version, that is not going to make my bookcase look 3 times the size of my tv, is it ?

That's the thing Foinavan, I stopped after 2 chapters. I only started again after I read the book had won a lot of awards.

It's worth sticking with but read the book first.

I don't generally read fiction Ovalman, but to disprove the point I'm in the middle of reading "Moby Dick" again after someone mentioned it on here. It's a cracking book with lots of fascinating information that I missed when reading it for the first time at school. I'm reading it on Kindle as I do whenever possible now as it's much kinder on my old eyes than squinting over small print in a book (and yes, my lenses are up to date).

Im turning over to itv, greatest 80's hits.

Cant be doing with an animated tiger with too many stripes on its face, on a boat with a zebra.

Haven't read the book.unfortunately watched 60 mins of the film( wanting to be impressed) -but I wasn't. Very disappointed !

Good film but I prefer movies with more human characters interacting.....not enough dialogue and got fed up of the kids indian accent all the time.

Saw it in the cinema in 3D. One of the few films improved by it.

Have also read a few reviews and sounds like an implausible fairy tale. Why wouldn't a Bengal tiger eat the captive juvenile ape first? Might be a good read for 12 year-olds but not something I would bother with, as there's more than enough interesting literature out there that I could be reading instead.

I've recorded it for watching later. I might wait now, till I've read the book.

I feel your pain. Never been so disappointed as when I settled down to watch Animal Farm to find my copy was some crappy cartoon about pigs trying to govern themselves.

You have a valid point Roger but the programme was not what I was expecting so I switched off.
After reading reviews of both the film and the book I doubt that it has the impact of Orwell's book but not having read it myself I can not say for sure.
What is certain is that some people have enjoyed reading the book but it's not one that I would be bothered to try.

A lot of firmly closed minds on here. I used to like going into my library and just taking the first book I saw whether or not I thought I would like it. Sometimes they were aweful but sometimes it opened my mind to fresh perspectives.

This is one of the problems with watching films at home. It's too easy to switch off or turn over. If you go to the cinema you are more likely to persevere and often realise that your initial first impression was flawed.

bix, I've spent far too many hours in the cinema in my youth watching carp, or other people's idea of what entertainment should be. For that reason I've become very selective in my old age.
I will not watch soap operas, reality shows or light entertainment on TV. I will not read Harry Potter or the Tolkien books, I will no longer go to the cinema, that's my choice. Call it closed mind if you like, it's my choice.
I will watch documentaries though or anything related to popular science. Did you see the two programmes related to Britain's nuclear energy industry and the Manhattan project last night?
