a bit bored with the racing so my mind wandered a little ...

I remember some brown cars from years ago ... allegro, fiesta (?)

and I occasionally see newish BMWs that are brown.

Who buys them and why?  Green perhaps at a stretch, even yellow, but brown WTF!

I had a 'brown' car bought 2000. A Rover 620 SI coloured 'Kinversand'.
I loved the colour and it changed with the weather - from chcolate brown on a grim, cloudy day to a glorious, rich,'lucozade' look on sunny summer evenings.
It was the last ever 620 in the showrooms as it was an unpopular colour. LOVED that car for a decade XX.

Ivor, an uplifting story and it's shone a little sunshine on my otherwise dull afternoon here on Betfair.

Have you had any brown cars since?

My mate Pete and I bought a brown Morris 1100 in 1979, the reason being that it was available for £60 ono. (After haggling we bought it for a pony each.) As I've never learnt to drive, the colour wasn't an issue for me - he was the one in the driving seat.

Gave us 10 months of happy motoring around the University of Sussex and the rest of the Brighton area, until we ran out of both the skill and the money to keep it running. It died behind one of the admin blocks on campus, so we pushed it into a vacant staff space in the car park and, for all I know, it may still be there, if anyone wants a free brown car.

Golly (if I can say that word these days) it seems like we have a few brown car afficionados on the forum.

I might start a thread about brown suits tomorrow - did you ever own one, sort of thing (I did once but I'd never admit it).

brown is only beautiful in marble or textured form

ie in patterned curtains, velvets  ,sofas ,stone ,wood etc and in coats , clothing etc - where you get differing shades of brown.

Block brown -ie in cars ,football shirts ,paint on walls etc is goddam awful

Black and brown are the colours most likely to be in an accident
though it obviously has not affected the popularity of black.

Bought a brown jacket from a gentlemen's outfitters in Castle Cary when I landed a date with the sort of lady who would demand a jacket from a gentlemen's outfitters in Castle Cary.

The salesman informed me the colour was chocolate, and I was very lucky, as it was the only one left and it happened to be my size.

The date informed me that the colour was in fact "sh1tty", and I type this now a lonely and bitter old man.

screaming, you've bolted!

I wasn't going to start the brown suit thread until tomorrow.

Still, you deserve a little leeway given your sad tale.

BTW, what colour were your trousers - not green corduroy (what a funny word), I hope.

I recall the maxi coming out from BL ... that came in brown.

One of its selling points was that you could recline both front seats and create a double bed ... don't know what you did with the gearstick though ... or why you would want a 2 week holiday in a maxi!

Good friends with a couple who had a blue maxi ... he went off with wife's best friend - don't know if the maxi had anything to do with it though.

Noel Gallagher was famously given a chocolate brown Rolls Royce by his record label boss, but I think NG chose the colour himself.

The P5 Coupe was a fabulous looking car. It was said it was like a "Gentleman's Club On Wheels".

Of course that would have a different meaning now!

this fred brings to mind the late, great anthony newley:

He lost his virginity to Diana Dors, was given a Jaguar by the Mafia, was taught to ice skate by Paul Newman and was said to have had an affair with Barbra Streisand.

Of the Jaguar he said: "The Mob still ran Vegas when I first played there, in 1969. These guys from the Mob came up to me and said - 'We'd like to give you a present. Whaddya want?'

"So I said - 'I'd like a chocolate brown Jaguar'.

"And so they drove it on to the stage! Thank you, Mafia! I drove it back to my home in LA and I sold it."
