Hotel has issued us with a supply of bottled water. The tap water in Lancashire is NOT to be used unless it's been boiled. Like the third world, what the f00ks going on?

Boiled water in Lancashire is "perfectly safe" to drink, health officials say, after the discovery of a microbial parasite in the mains supply.
Investigations are continuing into how traces of cryptosporidium, which can cause stomach upsets, got into Franklaw water treatment works outside Preston.
Public Health England said there was "no reason" to use bottled water though supermarkets have increased stock.
More than 300,000 households have been told to boil drinking water.
'Flush system'
United Utilities, which found traces of the parasite on Friday during routine tests, said it had done "everything possible" to warn residents, although some people have said they were not alerted quickly enough.
Chief scientific officer Martin Padley said: "The plant that's affected delivers 140 million litres of water a day and it'll take some time for all that water to flush through the system."
Traces of the parasite, which can cause gastrointestinal complaints, were reducing, said a spokesman.
The alert, which is in place at least until early next week, affects Blackpool, Chorley, Fylde, Preston, South Ribble, Wyre and the Mellor area of Blackburn.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said it had issued immediate guidance on the health risk posed by contaminated tap water and had sourced 50,000 litres of bottled water for patients and staff.

Just having a few days break and the hotel have advised us to use the bottled water for brushing teeth as well, so must be taking it quite seriously. The reception staff did look slightly panicked when I asked them about the ice they were using in the bar. Got the feeling someone will be hotfooting it down to the local supermarket for supplies. 
A couple of weeks ago my daughter, in Selby, was violently sick.
Wouldn't have thought anything of it until next day, she was talking to a neighbour.
The neighbour was sick at the same time which is a bit of a coincidence!
The only common denominator was the water, so I called "Yorkshire Water", and they were very quick in getting someone to come, and take samples.
On the social network sites there were loads of people with the same problem, but when YW called her later, they said the water was ok
and there was a virus doing the rounds.
I'm still not convinced tbh, but that's just me being cynical as usual!

water down south can be just as bad - depending on whether you class Suffolk as the south or midlands .

Norfolk water's the same, I can't drink tap water anymore far to many chemicals, tastes disgusting. I'll never understand why they put fluoride in the water.

ha ha pmsl - science not the strong here is it. Stop me if this is too crazy for you - the chlorine taste could be, ummm, err, how do I say this, ah yes . . . . chlorine ! (Fluoride has no taste ( but is does kill you in surprisingly small amounts : 5g, or 'a teaspoonfull', would kill a human))

The other two, sodium silicofluoride and hydrofluorosilicic acid, are the compounds actually used for water fluoridation, with hydrofluorosilicic acid being the most commonly used additive, according to the CDC.18
Sodium silicofluoride and hydrofluorosilicic acid are the waste products from the wet scrubber systems of the fertilizer industry, and are classified as hazardous wastes. Contamination with various impurities such as arsenic is also common in these products. Hydrofluorosilicic acid is one of the most reactive chemicals known to man, and its toxicity is well known in chemical circles.
It will eat through metal and plastic pipes, and corrode stainless steel and other materials. It will dissolve rubber tires and melt concrete.19 This is what is added to your water—all in the name of saving children from cavities! But even the less reactive sodium fluoride is a deadly poison, even in small quantities, and in the form used for fluoridation also contains additional impurities. Other common uses for sodium fluoride include:
Rat and cockroach poisons
Anesthetics
Hypnotics and psychiatric drugs
Fluoride — A Cumulative Poison
Approximately 98 percent of the fluoride you ingest in water is absorbed into your blood through your gastrointestinal tract. From there, it enters your body’s cellular tissues. On average, about 50 percent of the fluoride you ingest each day gets excreted through your kidneys.
The remainder accumulates in your teeth and bones, pineal gland, and other tissues—including your blood vessels, where it can contribute to calcification.
Health Hazards Linked to Fluoride Over-Exposure
As the number of studies into the toxic effects of fluoride has increased, there is now support for a rather long list of potential health problems related to fluoride accumulation in your body.
For example, according to one 500-page long scientific review, fluoride is an endocrine disruptor that can affect your bones, brain, thyroid gland, pineal gland, and even your blood sugar levels.
Forty-two human studies have also linked moderately high fluoride exposures with reduced intelligence, and over 100 animal studies have shown that fluoride exposure can cause brain damage.
