Yeah, I know, it's Chit Chat and I'm going to get the usual mickey taking, but I could really do with an extra £100 a week.  I've got a full-time job so need some good ideas for making a bit extra in my spare time.  Thanks very much for any serious replies, everyone else can jog on.

3.advertise world wide that you have the patent for colored grass.
4.can you imagine how you would change the world with everyone coming to you for a pink lawn ,with a white border for their new house.
5.and I suppose BARCELONA FC would would want you to change the color of their playing surface

6. I guess you are going to be a busy man.
7.did you know the guy that invented paint was called paint.

Just brought this to the top in case the OP or others are still interested in the original question.

There are a few methods that I move between as the mood takes me but I haven't got any get rich quick schemes or even get rich slowly ones. However, £100 a week is possible just by sitting at your computer for a few hours in the evening but you don't get much more than minimum wage. It's work, not gambling, so you have to pay tax.
Report Torquemada August 11, 2015 4:40 PM BST
Please tell more if you can, not afraid of a bit of work.
Report Gallivanter August 11, 2015 5:45 PM BST
Hello Torquemada, I see the Inquisition has started!

What caught my eye about your post was the target of £100 per week. It's the same as mine. The obvious method is to sell stuff on eBay while using your garden shed as a warehouse. It does work but I haven't been able to get to my shed for a few years now and the post office is out of the question.

That left working from the computer as the only option, which gives the choice of working for yourself or working for somebody else.

My first try was for a large company that guaranteed 16 hours per week at four hours per evening. Two of those evenings had to be Friday and Saturday but that didn't bother me, of course. The hours were from 7-11pm or 8-12pm or 9pm-1am.

Although you could choose two of your evenings, you couldn't choose your
hours slot. The pay was about 50 pence above minimum wage and overtime, if offered, was at the same rate.

It's a big company, you'd know the name and it's all above board. There are similar jobs at other companies from the same agency.

The job involved turning your computer into a phone by wearing a microphone headset. They give you a CD to boot from and it completely takes over your machine. Windows doesn't get booted and it doesn't put anything on your hard drive.

There's a short exam online and then you get a choice of telephone sales or telephone support. Sales means the customers call you to buy, there's
no cold calling. Support means the customers call you in a bad mood because their stuff doesn't work. You take them through a check list to find the problem. Usually they haven't plugged it in. They're delighted if you can fix it, they aren't delighted if you have to tell them you need to send a man round.

You need a quiet room without kids running in and out. The customers think you're in an office. Deduct tax and the cost of heat and light and you just about make your £100.

I can't guarantee to be fit to work regular hours anymore so I transferred to self-employment.

If you're interested in the kind of stuff I'm droning on about, let me know and I'll continue later. She who must obeyed has just told me that my tea is nearly ready.
Report Torquemada August 11, 2015 5:56 PM BST
That's most kind of you G.  I don't think my telephone and communicating skills are particularly strong, but needs must when the Devil drives and I could really do with the extra cash, so I would like to know a bit more information please if it's not too much trouble. Thank you again and I hope your tea is lovely! Happy

ok Torquemada, this is a long term profit making scheme.
1 buy a yellow rose.
2 take a clip of it in spring and plant it in a pot.
3 you now have 3 yellow roses.
4 double your roses each year.
5 roses look after themselves.
6 if you double each year for 20 years you will have over one million roses to sell.
7 as you sell them you will get richer and richer, and become an expert at growing yellow roses.
8 remember who give you the idea.
9 Advertise the Torquemada yellow rose as a gift of love.
10 even at #1 quid a rose you will be worth millions and no production costs.Grin

correction=line 3 should read "you now have 2 yellow roses"but you know what I mean, ten offcuts of a rose will produce ten new roses, your business will expand and expand and you can sell at rock bottom prices.employing thousands and thousands of people looking after your billions ,and your raw product will never cost with sales men paying their own way ,all YOU need is one quid per rose.Cool

No probs, mate. I'll write some stuff about self-employment tomorrow.
Report Gallivanter August 12, 2015 4:27 PM BST
Torquemada, here are some ideas about part-time self-employment from home.

Book Formatting

Everyone and his brother is publishing a Kindle book, mainly because it's free to do. Many of the writers don't know how to format a book
for the Kindle and that's where you come in. You need a (very) little knowledge of HTML because ebooks are built from HTML. Amazon and
Smashwords explain exactly what needs to be done but people will still pay you £30 to do it for them. It will take you two or three hours tops.

Your client sends you a text file and you format it in HTML using a basic editor (Notepad++ is free). When you've got it to your liking when viewed
in a browser, you convert it to the next stage, an epub document. Calibre, another free program, automates the process for you. Produce an
epub file for Kobo, Nook and so on and a mobi file for Amazon Kindle. Test your files on a downloadable free reader emulator and you're done.

If the budding author also wants a paperback, which are printed free on demand by Createspace, an Amazon company, get a PDF outline from
Createspace and off you go again. Paper pages aren't centred, the left page is offset to the left and the right page, well you get the idea.
That's why you need the free PDF outline. Use Word or one of the free Word clones to build the book from the text file.

Book Covers

Even ebooks need a cover. This is the only thing that has a small outlay. Talk to your client and give them what they want. Download some
stock photos (not too dear) and cut and paste characters and items to build a picture. A city background, perhaps, with closeups of a man, a
girl and a gun. Charge about £50 a cover. About four hours work, including talking to the client on Skype or by email.

Paperback books require a back cover and a spine. Simply run the front background around to the back and get the client to write the blurb for
the back. Be sure to leave room for the ISBN box. Createspace will give you some free mock-ups on PDF to play with. Paperback covers should
be paid for at £100 a pop.

Get your first clients from Upwork or even Fiverr or Tenrr. Fivesquid is British. Once you get known, move to Gigbucks where you can charge much
more. I've heard good things about Task Army.

Offer your services on writers' groups. Always charge at least minimum wage plus a pound
extra. You can attract new clients by offering a discount if they'll let you put "Formatting and Cover Design by Example.com" in the front
matter. That's the page with the copyright notice.

Writing Articles

If you feel you can write website articles, have a go with Upwork or Textbroker.co.uk. Textbroker pays very well and gets better as you build
up your own client list.

All the above take time to build up a client list but you should easily hit your original target of £100 a week in the first month. I prefer
these types of jobs because I can work an hour here and an hour there.

Mystery Shopping

If you want to go outside, you know - out there where the weird people go - you could try mystery shopping. You can select the assignments. Try
uk.marketforce.com. You get paid to buy stuff and sometimes they let you keep it. (Especially if you've eaten it.)

If none of the above appeals, you can advertise your services locally on Google. How about gardening, decorating, something like that?

One last thing, have a look here:

Good luck!
