Forgive me for repeating something what I wrote on the Politics forum yesterday about this saga….
A hypothetical question.
Would a generation of fawning, idiotically gullible, wannabe 'progressive'/'inclusive' politicians, and easily-impressed media luvvies have rushed to lionize (and throw taxpayers money at) a company that called itself The UK Children's Support Organisation, if the public face of the company had been a British-born, white, 40-something man with a successful business background who wore a suit and tie?
Personally I'd guess NO. More likely such a man would be investigated by the Paedo Squad.

I’m not one for wage caps etc as a rule but I do think when it comes charities they should be under greater scrutiny than other companies with strict limits salaries and ‘consultancy fees’.

Meanwhile the govt is pursuing someone who owes them £7k for overpaid tax credits. It started off at only 1.5k but the punitive interest rate has pushed it higher due to their inability to pay.Told to me by a tax credit operator who is disgusted with UK govt.

This mess just shows why we should always be sceptical about sentimental argument staking precedence over basic common sense, the politicians and media fell for her apparent sincerity but ignored her managerial ineptitude. And now we move onto Corbynmania.

private school fees paid for the children of all the staff at Kids Company?????
Anyone who helps out at a charity or voluntary organisation must be speechless - most struggle to get a pittance in funding whilst the government throws millions at this bunch of inept clowns

Collapsed charity Kids Company received at least £46m of public money despite repeated concerns about how it was run, the National Audit Office has found.
The NAO reported that the charity for vulnerable children repeatedly received grants after claiming it faced closure.
The charity received twice the funding of any other charity in 2011, and officials relied on its own assessments to check performance, the report said.
Former bosses at the charity deny it was financially mismanaged.
Ex-Children's Minister Tim Loughton, a Conservative, said he warned against giving a "very sizeable" grant to Kids Company in 2012, but said the charity appeared able to "mesmerise" people into giving it "special treatment".
The charity - which was founded by Camila Batmanghelidjh and provided support to deprived and vulnerable children in London, Liverpool and Bristol - closed in August.
The NAO found it received public funding for at least 15 years, with at least £42m provided in government grants, including £28m from the Department for Education (DfE) and its predecessors.
It also received about £2m from councils and £2m from the National Lottery.
Key findings In 2008, Kids Company received 20% of the Department for Education's grant programme
From 2011-2013 it received twice as much in grants than national children's charity Barnardo's
Kids Company had not been required to compete for its annual grant since 2013
Until 2013, the government relied "heavily" on the charity's own self-assessments to monitor its performance
Inland Revenue wrote off the charity's tax debts of £590,000 in 2003

Come on guys, be fair. It's only tax payers money that would otherwise be wasted on other things ... poor, sick etc.
And they wonder why we have a booming black economy - I don't - why pay tax when this happens, I say.
£46 million WOW!!!

Apparently usual local stats show no change in drug taking, crime, school attendance etc etc etc - so 45 mil wasted but then if you saw what area you would understand why. So what did that money actually do then.?

I'd say a lot of the charity's are on the fiddle. Here in ireland we have had our fair share of corrupt charity's. The problem with charity's it is so open to corruption. They are less likely to be taken to task. One charity here in ireland the ceo was on 200k a year. Scandalous.

Program on about the london marathon a while back. Some of the stuff was shocking. Concern's ceo i think is on a hugh salary. Alot of charity's espically the one's where they have people canvassing on the street are taken up on admin fees. Only charity's i give to are one's where you know where the money ends up. The bigger the charity the bigger the admin and gravy boat imo.

I'm quite the fan of the BBC but they didn't come out of this documentary smelling of roses.
Never mind the p1ss-poor performance of Yentob, what about data protection and privacy laws relating to on air disclosures about donations from celebrity patrons?
As for the woman herself, you wouldn't put her in charge of a tombola stall at a village fete.

‘This is the cause of all my problems, my Miss Piggy bag,” says Camila Batmanghelidjh, holding up her pink shopping bag in the back of a Toyota Prius, outside the smart Kids Company head offices in London. “Everyone thinks that just because I wear funny clothes and I have a Miss Piggy bag that I must be unable to run a business.”
Or they might think: that’s not a Miss Piggy at all, and anyone who doesn’t know the difference between Miss Piggy and Peppa Pig shouldn’t be running a children’s charity. Or, they might even think that neither the funny clothes, nor the bag, nor the identity of the pig is the issue here; it’s not about Miss Piggy at all, it’s about mismanagement, misjudgment and the misuse of donations and government money.
Last summer, film-maker Lynn Alleway was invited by Kids Company founder Camila B to follow her around. Which, given what was about to happen, was like an invitation, on the evening of 14 April 1912, to the bridge of the Titanic. The result, Camila’s Kids Company: The Inside Story (BBC One), is an extraordinary film. I’ve read the papers and watched Newsnight and everything, but this is a different view. It is – as it says on the tin – the inside story; it’s damning, but also, weirdly, a little bit vindicatory.
So we see Laurence, head of communications, communicating muddled messages. “Don’t mention – in fact, don’t even respond to – financial mismanagement,” he advises Camila. “Unless you’re asked.” What, don’t answer the question, unless it’s asked? Then there’s Tony the chauffeur, with his kids at private school. Except he’s not a chauffeur (although he certainly looks like one to me, driving Camila around, in a car), because there’s the other driver who is paid £30-40,000 a yea ... shhhh, keep quiet about that. And Annie, 34, who has been entirely dependent on Kids Company for years. And the swimming pool (OK, not such a big one, but undeniably a swimming pool), and the pomegranates in the bowl, and the massive telly in the lovely art deco house for disadvantaged children – and for Camila when she fancies a swim, or possibly a pomegranate.
To claim that there’s no mismanagement there is bonkers, and you can feel Alleway’s growing frustration, disappointment and sadness behind the camera as she starts to lose faith in her subject, a woman she has filmed before and whom she clearly admires.
But – and it’s a big but – however bonkers and badly run Kids Company was, it’s hard not to admire and support the idea behind it: to bring the love of a family to troubled lives. Nor is Camila’s motivation in question – she’s trying to do the right thing by the kids. And on an individual level it works, it can change lives for the better. Such as Chesney’s, who is doing so much better than she would be without Kids Company help. Annie, too, clearly needs help, even if it shouldn’t come from a children’s charity. And driver/non-driver Tony’s kids ... no, I’m not sure they (or anybody’s, including the PM’s) really need to go to private school. And as for the giant tellies and the pomegranates, well, who determines what screen size is appropriate to people of what circumstances, or who gets to eat pomegranates?
I was left sharing Alleway’s sadness, because the ideas behind Kids Company are ones you hope could work. And feeling that although Camila and the charity did a lot of things wrong, they also did a hell of a lot of things right. For the people who matter most.

Is she fool or knave? I don't know but Mother Theresa didn't need affectations. In fact she lived the life down in the gutters if that was what was required. If Batman were some kind of con woman extraordinaire it would have been the perfect plan. Dress up in Joseph's amazing technicolour coat and stick a pineapple on your head. The bigger the lie. The more likely it is to be believed. The bigger the con. The more likely you are to succeed if you put it on full public view. Maybe helping others is the best way of helping yourself. I simply don't know about her.
Once again it brings into focus how bad government are at allocating resources and picking winners.

The publisher of the Guardian newspaper is drawing up plans to axe jobs and slash spending as it heads for another annual loss of about £40million.
The newspaper – and its Sunday sister title the Observer – are part of Guardian Media Group and ultimately owned by the Scott Trust, which exists to support the Guardian in perpetuity.
Both the present editor of the Guardian, Katharine Viner, and her predecessor Alan Rusbridger are on the Trust’s board, with Rusbridger set to become chairman next year.
The losses expected in the year to the end of March next year are due to heavy investment in digital media operations and a sharp fall in advertising income which has affected the title, said sources close to the company.
GMG chief executive David Pemsel is drawing up redundancy plans that will apply across the group and not just in editorial. These are expected to be finalised in the New Year. A source said: ‘A savings plan is being considered, but the headcount numbers have not yet been finalised. GMG is looking at a reduction in headcount as a way of contributing to savings.’
GMG is understood to be on course to spend £70million this year and up to £90million next year on expanding the Guardian’s online service in the UK, US and Australia. Digital revenue at Guardian News & Media, GMG’s key news division, was £82.1million last year.
However, it is not thought to make a profit on its digital operations. Suggestions that it might introduce some kind of paywall for its online site are understood to be wide of the mark.
The division made operating losses of £19.1million this year. GMG’s total operating losses were £45million. The group also owns a third of Top Right Group, the magazine publisher formerly known as Emap.
Last year GMG sold its majority stake in Trader Media Group, publisher of Auto Trader, for about £650million.
