Heartbreaking initially but little choice. Lucas, my first grandson, went at 6 months old.

He could have been closer to 8 months but his mother, aka "Nettle Face", couldn't wait to get back to work.

I was dead against but, as my son said, it's good for their social skills to realise that there is life outside the home.
In the end I can see the logic of that.

My second grandson will be going in September, and has had a few visits for an hour or so, and today his first half day.
just waiting to hear how he got on now.

Lucas picked up a terrible Yorkshire accent, because of the Huddersfield area carers.  Glad he quickly lost it, when he started prep school at age three and a half.

Gemma had a visit from a couple of the staff at home, just to talk about any special things they should know, and she was quick to grab the opportunity to say "please don't say 'Ta' to him
as she had heard that, when she was there...... e.g.  "say ta to that mister".

Also we don't have "Moo-Cows" and "Baa-Lambs" and "Piggy-Jacks" etc.

They probably think that she is "jumped up" but paying £40.00 per day she has the last call.

If they want kids they should stay at home and watch them themselves. Thats only my opinion.

Britain certainly knows how to look after its young and old: nurseries and care homes.

Dont see the point in anyone having Kids if they are shipping them off at 6 months to carers or nurseries

Especially when they must only be spoken to in an accent-free tongue, using words from the parentally-selected 'approved' list!! LaughLaugh

My 2 kids went when they were about 3 yo for half a day, 5 days a week......I used to look after them alot the rest of the time.....self-employed so possible

At 6 months old it may give the kid separation anxiety

I think for emotional security, in an ideal world the first few years should be mother at home full time. Then a good nursery as their brains a re like sponges and absorb so much; which really helps before the transition to school as well as developing social skills.

My daughter had her mum with her FT until she was 3. Then we put her into a Montessori nursery which cost £900 a month 7 years ago. But she got proper cooked food (vital what goes into them at that age), was taught French, it had a swimming pool etc and the standard of care was superb.

Now she swims like a fish, loves dancing (is in the town panto this xmas after successful audition) and is as bright as a button being ahead of all the national curriculum benchmarks at 10 years old.

So gents, don't skimp on a bad nursery - it will pay dividends in the long run!

I am shocked to learn that babies go to nursery as young as 6 months old Sad

I agree with Charwell about Montessori nurseries.

Mine went to a Montessori style nursery, gave me a break and I could get on with some work.....helped them to get on with other kids earlier.

Social skills at six months?!

Yes Zaru...you would be surprised, but I never said I advocate going at six months.
That was a one off in my son's case.
My latest grandson will be nine months which makes a big difference.

As for the idea of being at home till aged three; from where does the money come?
£200.00 a week in our case!

Clouseau....sorry to be thick but explain please as that's too deep for me!

Ok, I think I got it. Could DWD be my "Alter Ego"?

The misplaced comma is a better clue methinks!

Bit of an exaggeration TL, but from now on I will work to rectify that....Reliant Robin!

It's a quote from The Young Ones : Alexey Sayle trying to sell a Reliant Robin,

Rick     : It's a 3 wheeler, isn't it?

Alexey : Usually.....usually !

That series has to be the most radical comedy anywhere on the planet.

Used to almost pass out laughing.

I guess it's been repeated on Sky, but I don't have or want that.

A man should not be living in a property that he cannot afford to pay for out of his own wage...

If that is not good enough for "Nettle Face" perhaps there is a clue somewhere in the name!
