Howell looks on course to justify favouritism, betfairian Arkell doing OK.

Oddly the BCF  have allowed a GM into the
supporting Open event, he has a rating advantage
of 400

I defeated a female grandmaster on chess24 a couple of week ago.

It was only a pokey 3 minute game, but a win is a win.

According to that link you're rated 2743 which, if it is you, makes you one hell of a good player. The female grandmaster was rated lower than you.
Sounds fishy to me. Quite prepared to apologise though!

2743!!! you`re a grandmaster yourself!

c24 starts everyone at 1800, which horribly inflates ratings.

I'm a very handy speed player, specialising in cheap tricks, totally bonzai sharp lines to kill time and a skill of flagging people.

I would get annihilated in classical.

I started playing at 13, represented Northumberland at Junior County level and played til i was 20. only ever reached a rating of 148. Career high for me, obviously that would be 1480 in nowadays money.

You need 50 different pieces with different moves and a board 1000 times larger, then the memory people-bots couldn't rule the game.

OC....the game would have to be played on a computer.

I  think a grading of 148 equates to high 1700's which is higher than
the average club player.

Meanwhile  Howell the fav for the British title lost to the second fav and
is now a half point behind.

What happened to Nigel Short?

charwell.

Short is a shell of a man after watching the greatest ever plyaer twisting his pieces into the board whilst our Nigel was sat there shaking like a sh1tting dog.

Mr Nibbs, v impressive. However, she was an International Master and not a GM Wink Still I haven't beaten anyone near that calibre so I doff my cap to you sir.

I drew with Bill Hartson in a simultaneous - I was a couple of pawns up but bottled it and offered a draw.

I also beat someone who has a FIDE rating of 2200+ - don't know what that is in proper money.  He was absolutely fuming. I was gobsmacked when I asked him his grade after the match. He didn't ask for mine!

2200 is proper money, the English grading system is old hat.

There are 11 GM's playing in the British and going into the
last round they hold 11 of the top 12 positions in a 74 man
field so chess form is being upheld.
