I was only looking a little trim and I am very happy with the results but I never knew men could get haircuts for that price. My normal barber charges £7 but they are on holidays so I called into a salon in Belfast today that i just happened to be passing and it seemed quiet.

Bit slow on the uptake!

Needed my bap cut so not really complaining. I just did not take into account city prices as I live in the country. Give a £5 tip so I was not unhappy - just surprised. Only took a twenty note out of my pocket too when I went to pay.

Inner city salons are rip-offs as they can get away with it with all the vain idiots about.

How do you ensure you always have the right change? That seems like and odd conversation, "call it £18.50 for cash"? Not being funny or anything, I've often wondered about how much thought they put into their price points. For example, they could offer £8 or £9 and they still get £10!

Fair point. I went to a barbers once and the owner manned the till. Didn't realise until after I'd had it done. I had to walk a cross the shop to give my £2 to the woman who cut my hair. I expect he kept all the tips.

I paid £7.00 for as long as I can remember.

Certainly no tip as she owns the salon and probably pays sod all tax!

Also when she's running late I could see that she spent more than half an hour on some with decent hair.
Mine is crap and she only spun it out to twenty minutes as we talked about every subject under the sun.

Bought a "Wahl" professional clipper and accessories two years ago and, as I used to go every three weeks, I've saved the best part of £250.00.

akabula, you may well be correct. Just because the clippers are marketed as "professional" doesn't make them any better in the hands of an amateur.

Similarly if I replaced my cheap golf clubs, with the best in the world, I doubt if I would hit the ball any differently

I was getting a haircut in the Barbers yesterday when I noticed my normally jovial barber was extra jovial today. Unfortunately I didn't notice this until I was sat in the chair with scissors clipping around my ears. Thats when I noticed the smell of drink off him.  Awkward moment to say the least especially when he got the cut throat razor out to do the final tidy up.

The lady who owns the shop charges £12, been going there for a few years, when I went this week she said she was trying to build up some clients for the young girl who has just finished her training. Nice young girl just finished her apprenticeship, perfectly happy to switch to her, she was excellent, charged £7, gave a £2 tip, and booked up my next appointment with her.  Much better than going to Inner city salons and rip off prices.

I actually enjoyed our little chats, putting the world to rights, every three weeks or so.

She always said she preferred being a men's hairdresser, because better to talk with.
