Deputy Chairman and a director of British American Tobacco (BAT) (1998–2007), for which Clarke faced allegations relating to activities of BAT in lobbying the developing world to reject stronger health warnings on cigarette packets and evidence that that corporation had been involved in smuggling and targeting children with advertisements.

Ha ha, that reminded me of the old "88.2% of statistics are made up on the spot" line |

Daily Mail :
Fellows later told the court that he was 'touched' by both Chancellor Ken Clarke and lobbyist Ian Greer before being invited to a party at Dolphin Square, a block of flats in Pimlico which is at the centre of allegations about a paedophile ring at Westminster. He said he went round to Greer's office alone to deliver a memo and was equipped with a briefcase camera and jacket camera. Fellows said he was later told the film had been 'miraculously' burnt in a fire. Asked if he could be mistaken that it was Mr Clarke with Ian Greer, he said: 'I don't believe so.' He told jurors that he was not very knowledgeable about politics and did not even know who John Major was, but insisted it was Mr Clarke because they had been introduced. Fellows maintained that he had been groped by Mr Clarke in the office of lobbyist Mr Greer. Asked if he was upset, he said: 'It wasn't upsetting at all, it was weird. It was no more than any grope you get in a nightclub on a Friday night.' Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson suggested Fellows made up his claims to create the 'aura of a victim.' But Fellows replied: 'No. I have told the simple truth. I signed the witness statement about the time I spent in the Cook Report after being pressured by police and that was it.' Fellows said he first made his claims in an article after the Jimmy Savile scandal broke because he was angry at the reaction of the BBC. Fellows repeated his claim he was invited to Stringellows on a number of occasions when he was aged 13 or 14. He claimed that they were 'giving cocaine to children in milkshakes.' He also claimed that the late Sir Michael Grylls, father of Bear Grylls, put a hand on his knee during a meeting. Asked if he had anything personal against Mr Clarke, he said: 'No, nothing whatsoever, apart from what happened in that office. I did not take it personally. I was part of the team.' Witnesses who have already given evidence at the Old Bailey include Mr Greer - who claimed that Fellows had propositioned him - theatre school founder Sylvia Young and veteran journalist Roger Cook. Fellows denies perverting the course of justice between November 14 2012 and December 1 2012. The trial continues. |

I can't see them sticking Clarke up for a nonce, makes you wonder who he has upset in the establishment though for them to be pursuing it

![]() Need orioles' opinion here, but this sounds unprecedented. Turns the burden of proof on its head. |

No proof that he lied does not mean that there is any proof that he was telling the truth.

You seem pleased Leopard. Begs the question why?

But surely if you persistently allege someone has committed a serious crime, then the burden of proof is on you to prove it happened, not on the other person to prove it didn't?

need to stop accusations against MPS in their tracks, next they will be claiming that there is a load of paedophiles in westminister

Couldn't care less about MPs. I'm concerned if someone were to start making allegations like this against me (or you).

But he's the one on trial, so the Crown has to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he made it up, which it clearly didn't. |
