Don't buy the branded cartridges like Epson. They are a massive rip off. The mrs just been doing her accounts for the last year since when she started using compatible alternatives and saved around 70%. If anything that's a cautious estimate as she's probably done more printing.
I gave up on printers years ago - a total racket. The old Epson printers were fair value - £60 and they used compatible ink and lasted for a year of solid use before they gave out. But then they started charging £30 for printers but ink was dearer than vintage champagne.
The ECO tank ones sound OK - £250 or some-such but they have loads of ink. Anybody got one?

I bought a laser printer from Tesco's for £21 with a full cartridge last lasted me 3,000 pages. The ink just ran out and to fill it costs £65 I could buy a refill kit for £15 but I've read the stuff is dangerous if not put in correct so my printer will probably end up in the bin.
Epson have some really cheap refills and some decent cheapish printers.

I did have a Laser printer (about £600) for work, but when the toner cartridges ran out and I also found I needed other replacement things I chucked it out. The cartridges are about £100 each. So to refill and replace everything would have cost about £600 too.
It's very unusual to buy a printer with a full cartridge of ink, they all have starter sets. You did well, ovalman.
