Just watched this for the first time this season....

Very entertaining tonight, and Nick and Sarah are two pleasant "Dragons" but , my Lord, would anyone like to work with Fouker Syliman?

I thought it was Theo at first, who had a health problem (someone had said he was coming back.

Has he dealt with anyone before tonight?

I thought the exact same last week - that it was Theo and he some health problems which affected his vocal chords.

He made a great pitch for the last deal of the programme up to the point of asking for 50% more of a share than the other dragon he was pitching to join up with. The man selling a share in his business should have accepted it though and give both him and the other dragon 6% each.

Was also going to add that, only yesterday, I was looking at a "Baby Crib" for my expected grandson.

Company name "Chicco".....

Be patient, as I have re-submitted my pics for the mods delectification!

What a bloody fantastic job do they have?

Imagine the stress and pressure!

It must be a right bloody scream, and they get paid for it as well!!!!!

Can you begin to imagine them creasing themselves, and probably in an alcoholic haze?

Surely these dragons (rather a member of their staff) have pre vetted all these companies.

some they don't even ask about profit/loss or assets etc etc, others they do. Whys that?

Again the pitcher doesn't ask how much time and effort would a dragon make, if they invest say £20k I cant see them giving to much time, and if they did I bet they charge a consultation fee for it.

Also a "personal" story if there is 1 always comes out. You've lost £5m etc etc.

Im not sure its as straight as it makes out.
Report TheChaser • July 19, 2015 10:30 PM BST
maleuk they already had done research for sure , as the chocolate guy had no figures but they all wanted a piece
Report TheChaser • July 19, 2015 10:33 PM BST
im sure in the early serious years ago one of them got ripped off buying sat sav for skiing or something , so they will research more now as plenty cons out there
Report maleuk01. • July 19, 2015 10:39 PM BST
yeah chaser I watched the chocolate guy and thought they all want to invest but there's been no sales figures/profits/balance sheet anything mentioned, just plopped some chocolate down and askde for £72k for only 5% and they all wanted a piece, seemed very strange.

According to a new report by Tiger Mobiles into the first 11 series of the popular BBC2 television programme, some 76 out of the 153 businesses that successfully pitched for cash on screen didn’t see a penny. Tiger Mobiles, the Leeds-based mobile phone comparison site, was rejected in 2008 by producers of Dragons’ Den, and didn’t even make it to air.

Of the £13m pledged by the Dragons on the show during those series, only £5.8m was actually invested.

One entrepreneur who pitched during the current series of the show, who cannot be named at this stage because of a non-disclosure agreement, has said that there’s another reason that so many deals don’t go through.

“The money they invest is a convertible note, so it’s not money for equity,” the founder said. “It’s a high interest loan, so it affects your credit rating with suppliers. You only find out it’s a convertible note when you are successful, not when you apply. It only converts to equity if the company meets performance targets.”

It's an ' entertainment 'programme. Not a serious financial business investment process. Hth
Report TheChaser • July 19, 2015 10:47 PM BST
read something about that before the money doesnt always go through

the chocolate guy should have have took the Theo lookalikes cash as he seemed to know how to source and get them in marks and spencers
Report paddletoe • July 20, 2015 11:51 AM BST
The theo lookalike made a superb pitch for the chocolate business and he also made a fair point that he could bring more value to the business than the other dragon he was proposing splitting the money with. But no point making an offer which you know was never going to be accepted. He was being far too cheeky.

I'm liking the new Dragon Sarah Love
Report Ramruma • July 20, 2015 1:55 PM BST
Based on @maleuk01's post and what they say on the programme itself, it looks like Dragons have no research in advance, but rely on offers being subject to a due diligence process *after* the show.
Report Shanelee1966 • July 20, 2015 2:59 PM BST
That`s my understanding too Ram.
Report Ramruma • July 20, 2015 5:39 PM BST
@maleuk -- some they don't even ask about profit/loss or assets etc etc, others they do. Whys that?

Some questions are edited out for broadcast, so perhaps they do ask and we are only shown the ones where the entrepreneurs get confused and mix up last year's gross profit with next year's price of petrol because the producers think we only watch for the car crashes.

Probably in some cases, it is not that important provided someone else can be assumed to have looked into things for them -- if the entrepreneur is already supplying a major supermarket chain, for instance, then Tesco will have checked they are solvent and the factory exists.

This may confirm solvency but you'd still need to know profit and turnover figures to assess the viability of the investment in the context of the valuation of the business. But as you say, this may well have beenn edited out.
Report Shanelee1966 • July 20, 2015 6:43 PM BST
Even with the obvious questions answered, there are still many more. They`d only invest when everything was in their favour.
Report cruso • July 20, 2015 7:13 PM BST
Did you know that all the dragons have to provide two identical sets of clothing.
If you notice, they wear the same outfits throughout the series.

She's hoping to branch out into many other products - much like Levi Roots
Report Ramruma • July 21, 2015 7:39 PM BST
Peanut woman was already in a lot of outlets and in talks with Waitrose, so (a) it was a viable product, and (b) there were no startup costs. All the Dragons need do is phone round the other chains and make an appointment with the buyer. And that was what peanut woman wanted, and why she went with Peter despite his demanding the biggest stake -- he has already done it with Levi Roots so she knows he can open the same doors for her.

Something Duncan (or was it Theo?) said once: the best investments are when they don't need the money.
Report Ramruma • July 22, 2015 5:30 AM BST
@cruso -- that is interesting about the clothes. If they are dressed the same throughout the series, that is presumably so the producers can mix pitches from different days together, so we do not get three episodes with no offers, followed by one show with six.

What I did notice is the handkerchief in the breast pocket appears to be back in fashion. All the men had one, all folded the same way.

The biggest thing a Dragon seems to offer is that they can call their friends at the head of supermarkets and get a product stocked immediately whereas a normal person would spend months trying to see a buyer.

I really dont see any great business genius in the likes of Jones or Meaden other than their connections and access to funding.

Wasn't it Peter Jones who dealt with "Texas Joe" but, aside from a contact by his legal guys, there was no further contact.
