Question for cat owners. I'm cat-sitting for a few days and don't want it scratching my leather sofa (not mine, rented flat, I'll get done for damages, etc)

What's the easiest way to protect your sofa from the feline ?  Will a couple of throws, blankets do the job or do I have to get a big plastic cover/bag type thing?

Kenny or any other cat lovers want to chime in here?

I don't use gloves for our cats.

1 of them gives a fabric sofa a regular clawing ...

but we live with it.

I have a dog and she goes where she wants, I don't care.
Sometimes she claws the sofa but she's never done it any real damage.
Normally just before she settlers down for a kip.

They don't like citrus so try cutting up a few lemons.

You want more than a throw-over if a cat starts clawing a sofa, I'd put a blanket and a throw-over on top.

Scratching is instinctive for cats so provide something for them to claw.  A cat scratcher with catnip or something like that is only about £6.  That is a basic one, you can pay more, as long as they got something to claw. We have a cat scratcher for Cindy Lou and she never claws the furniture. HappyHappyCool

As anyone who's surfed the interwebs knows, cats love sitting in cardboard boxes, or box lids, so get a couple and hope your moggy prefers that to the sofa. (Presumably it prevents draughts and/or means predators can't sneak up from behind.)

Cats have to exercise their claws to keep them in tip-top fighting condition ( helps them grow properly )

Get some Tiger or Lion dung from your local Zoo and put it around your sofa. They will think there is a larger cat nearby and stay away from your fauteuil.
