Annual rates.  This is tremendous news.  Remember all the hype about how we're getting poorer because average earnings was as much as 1 percentage point below inflation.  Well now it is 3 percentage points in the other direction.  Will this get trumpetted and applauded as much?  Will it fk.  Some people just like bad news.

It all depends what you spend your money on.  If you rent and can get away with only a 3% rise you're lucky. And rent be over 50% of your income.

think rent is way above 50% for a lot thats why they need housing benefits.

if house prices keep going up ...benefits keep going up.

they need to build enough homes to make a dent in prices.....many wont be happy especially the "im all right jacks" and anti "luvvies".....but tough sh1t.

people come first imo

15 grand is fk all.  a statistical anomaly.  Agree that housing is the big problem.  Need to build more houses and/or stop the population increasing.  Earnings 3% higher than inflation is good news.  Very good news, but people just want to concentrate on negatives all the time.

its all about growth though rob....

lowering the population wont help that...or would be very difficult to do help it.

think they need for the next 10 years to build more and make sure people do not leave....maybe offer citizenships and good benefits for not leaving the uk.

negative migrations will kill this country imo

...there is no inflation because we are in a managed recession and have been since 2008.......

....the real state of western economies is hidden by central bank  manipulation........QE and near zero interest rates......

....this is masking the true health of economies.......a bit like a patient on life support.......looks ok....is even breathing ok....

...but take away the life support....and you see the true state of the patient.

All this central bank intervention means the price discovery mechanism is non existent......cheap money is used foe share buybacks and asset bubbles are inflated......

And as far as interest rate rises are concerned.....rates will NEVER return to what are considered normal rates......they cannot...all wester goats know this.........it will trigger a soverign bond crisis that will in turn trigger a systemic financial crisi that makes 2008 look like a tea party...

How's all that for good news!!!!!!

Yes, really.
The Tories are trying to get the country into better shape whilst the likes of Labour (and the SNP in Scotland) try to buy votes with promises of spend spend spend without any indication of how they will pay for it.

Would be over £2 trillion with the likes of Labour.
The country was in such a mess that that was inevitable.

how many people have had or no someone who has had a 3% payrise ,obviously mp,s giving themselves a 10% rise puts the average up and stirling getting a 100% pay rise leaves 97% to spread out amongst the rest of us,obviously those in the public sector getting 1% for the next 4 years need to borrow 2% off the likes of stirling
dont no why these averages about everything arnt scrapped they mean nothing,
one person on minimum wage martin sorrel on 50 million a year, what is the remotest point in putting both of these wages into the average wage pot, absolutly ridiculous,
average house price london 500 grand, average house price in the rhonda 45 grand, averasge house price 200 grand ,whats the point

the tories are trying so much that they waited how many years before deciding they might need to build more homes.

meanwhile housing benefits will rise as rents and house prices still go up.

thats not trying thats ignoring policies that were urgent.

lower rents would have meant more money flowing around and the economy would have recovered quicker and left us in a position to stave off low eurozone property prices.

now its too late imo

It would be a good idea if they banned the word 'average' from the media and educated people about mean, median and mode.

For most of the statistics mentioned, e.g. salary, house prices I would say that median would be a more appropriate measure than mean.

Yep. And giving both (mean and median) would be even better.
