Not the first time either. I got a Berry smoothie from the drive in. It cost £1.99 and give the girl £2. She says to me sorry I have no 1 pennies. There was other cars behind me so they were probably not going to get the right change either.

Its not the point of the 1 penny but surely you don't say to someone I haven't got a penny change for you. You give them 2p change instead.  But she said it in such a way as it was no big deal.

Feck the penny but £1.99 for a smoothie is robbery.

I used to think £1.99 for a smoothie was a bit steep too but I got one for the first time a few weeks ago and they are absolutely gorgeous. Its quite a small amount you get though.

they can refuse to take it - not legal tender at that volume

2p - for any amount not exceeding 20p

Never knew that. Does not apply to banks surely? I throw all loose change in a big bowl in the house and every so often put it in bags and take it to the bank.

I visited HSBC yesterday.  I don't know what their smoothies are like, but they made me a lovely cup of tea and cracked open the Foxes chocolate biscuits.

And, coincidentally, I visited the hospital for surgery on Friday where they also made me a lovely cup of tea but, alas, the biscuits served there were the humble bourbon.

In their defence there was an almost unlimited supply.
