Why do some people ( present company excepted ) drive around with a Panama hat in the back window of the car for all to see.?

Do they want to give the impression they are some kind of Cad about town or were an extra on the film Lawrence of Arabia or are just back from quaffing Pimms and cucumber sandwiches with Prince Charles at the Polo Grounds.?
Can they not leave it on the front or back seat instead, pretentious d ickheads. Aaagh.

Better a "Panama Hat" than the revolting, stained, and large item of female control, proudly displayed on the "parcel shelf" (why so called?)
of a car in France!

So if you'd paid a grand plus for a decent panama would you just dump it on the backseat for someone to sit on or would you put it out of the way on the parcel shelf? To be honest though you can have a dance on a decent one & it will come back to its shape whereas those £50 things will drop to bits.

Yes that figures right. If you go on the internet & put in Montecrsti Panama hats.Look for supa fino with a grading of 32 or plus. There's a ladys on there now for£1200 & believe me the blokes run at about the same price although I can't see any 30 plus grades on there at the moment for blokes. The one I wear cost a few hundred but there again I'm a tramp apart from the fact I like a decent hat on my head & decent pair of shoes on my feet. The rest of my clothes during summer I couldn't give a toss about however the clothes I wear during winter cost plenty & I still look like a tramp but I keep warm & dry.

I like a decent pair of shoes on my feet and a nice shirt/top on my back but £1000 for a hat, no I can do without that.
I have a bunnet for my walks in the winter though, cost me £75. Laugh

& that bunnet will be worth every penny when you're out during winter.

If I was paying £1000 for a hat I would expect that to include the air fare to Panama to pick it up.

On a different note

building workers such as architects, surveyors etc who leave their hard hat on the back shelf of their car.

Constant exposure to the Sun alters the polymers in the hat, and it will end up not giving the protective cover it should.

"Baby on board" sticker in back window always causes me to slam on brakes.

I go racing towards the car, often flat out, but when I see that I think "hell no, there's a baby in there, what am I doing".

I just worry that some day I'll rear end a car with a baby in it because the parents have forgotten to hang the sign up.

TBF I didn't know that either. Still I suppose they sell them in Panama so he could still pick one up there.
You're now gonna tell us they are banned in Panama, aren't you.

Akabula - Think you can probably get them in Panama.  Wasn't trying to be smart.  Its a regular pub trivia question. You'll know next timeWink

Actually I am a keen Panama Hat fan - worst I bought was £250 from a proper London Hat Shop (Not Locks who are top notch),  Best one I bought was a Montecristi "probable fake" in a Provence markete a couple of years ago.  Mind you that one says Ecuador on the inner rim and I will be wearing it every day to Glorious this year.

As an occasional bunnet wearer I'm maybe not qualified to talk on hat styles.
