Task Manager
highlight the line you want, and click 'end task' |

If its not too much trouble and your still up spelling could you please explain that procedure more simply as I am not very advances in the workings of computers eventhough I use one many hours a day. If your not still up maybe you can give a reply tomorrow.

Press the Ctrl, Alt and Delete buttons all at the same time. Then select 'Task Manager'. Then locate the browser program from the list and click on 'End Task'.
Of course, you could just turn the laptop off by holding down the power button for several seconds. It'll be gone by the time you boot back up... |
By:
thank you joe. I will try that now. I cant actually take the power battery out of this particular laptop which is a Toshiba but even when I tried letting the battery run flat down and restarted it the same webpage was up.
By:
Just to check I wont lose any pictures which are saved but only seem to be saved under that same username account on the laptop. The pictures are family ones so I dare not lose them.
Can you please just confirm I wont lose any of these pictures. Thanks in advance. |
By:
Well the pictures will be saved somewhere on the laptop, so no, they won't be lost just by switching the laptop off.
If you let the battery go flat, the laptop probably just went into suspend mode rather than turning itself off, so that would explain why the webpage was still up. Switch it off properly, and the offending browser should be gone.... |

thank you very much joe.

No it did not work.
First I tried to run the battery down which I did but when I turned computer on again it was the same. Tried the ctr, alt, delete method and task manager came up. But the mouse was still stuck/not sure the mouse icon on screen was even visible. I could see the place on the bottom right corner which said end task but I had no way to click on it. |
By:
Will it start up in 'safe mode'?
By:
not very good with the workings of computers spelling. The mouse is completely not working on the other account username. Not sure what you mean by safe mode?
By:
any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I will probably survive but my wife will give me a telling off if she sees what the webpage is stuck on.
By:
paddle, try pressing F7 the pointer key,it may free up the webpage or possibly tab the keys so that the mouse points to a close button and press enter, that MAY work,gd luck

BTW when you tried task manager it wouldn't free up the mouse you would have to tab down using the arrow keys (Up/down/sideways arrows) to hover above the ISP you want to remove.
By:
okay let me phone my friend and tell him to try clicking the f7 key.
By:
ALso possible to try switching off the router in the house and switching back on after 30 seconds,it may disconnect all the web pages held and switch off the laptop and restart,gd luck
By:
thanks for all your help everyone but it still wont work. There is no mouse icon coming up at all. I can get to the task manager page using the method suggested but I cant click on the end task icon on the bottom right corner as I have no mouse icon to click on it and the move up and down keys wont work at this stage to move onto it.
By:
The only option is going to be to bring it to pc world where I got the computer from but I will have to end up going to one miles away from where I live the webpage I am stuck on is a little embarrassing.
By:
Will the tab key (far left of keyboard, just above control/shift keys) not let you move the cursor to end task (then press enter)
By:
You could try killing the process, then un-installing the software, re-booting, then re-installing the software

tab keys wont work when I get as far as task manager so cant click on end task. I will try turning off router in a while. Worst case scenario I will have to bring it to pc world and I am sure they can fix it quickly. No big deal really when I am not going to see the person again.

As if they have never had a bit of porn on their computer anyway.
By:
You could stage a burglary and pretend the laptop has been nicked

Try the process kill I suggested. You may not need to uninstall & re-install the software. Kill the process, restart the pc & that may be it sorted.
Failing that, can't you get a mate round to take a look? Another alternative, is to get a mate to login remotely with e.g. Team viewer (remote access software) |

Turn the computer off.
When you turn in back on, continually tap the F8 button until the normal screen opens up. It should say 'Safe Mode' in each corner of the screen. Try Task Manager again. |

when I turn the computer off it comes back on as normal. Its just when I log into one particular account where everything is frozen on a particular webpage. That's why I can use this same computer to chat here. I just need to log and sign in under one of the other account usernames on the same computer.
So should I sign in under the frozen account and then keep pressing the f8 key. Tried pressing the f7 one previously which someone else suggested but nothing happened. |
