Ten million British jobs to be taken over by computers and robots over the next 20 years, wiping out more than one in three roles.
Low-paid, repetitive positions are most likely to go, with people earning less than £30,000 a year five times more likely to see their jobs taken over by machines than those paid £100,000, new research has warned. Huge advances in technology risks creating an under-class of low-skilled people whose jobs have been automated, according to a joint report from Deloitte, the Big Four accountancy firm, and the University of Oxford. The research predicts that as much as 35pc of jobs across the country will be made redundant by technical advances over the next 10 to 20 years – some 10.8m positions.

The problem is as wages rise, companies will find it cheaper to use machinery for these jobs. If they had no minimum wage, and it was cheaper to hire a person than to get a machine to do the job. That's why I propose a minimum wage of 10 pence per hour.

I heard this same nonsense on Tomorrow's World 35 years ago. How we would all have it so easy and enjoy loads of leisure time. 35 years later people have never worked so hard.

I've just looked on Youtube (only one clip I may add) at a bricklaying robot. The the computer generated clip looked quite good, the prototype looked awful though. I think my job's safe from robots.
